ps3 online connecting problem

well, the new Socom confrontation is coming out on tuesday and I can't wait! So yesterday try to get online to play some madden and I cannot sign in...The ps3 recognized it was connected but couldn't do anymore than that. Ok so I rebooted and checked the connections and stuff, still no luck. I then tried to get online with call of duty and still nothing, then I tried connecting my playstation 2 to the internet to play some old socom, and the damn ps2 won't connect either, I even swapped out ethernet cables in case that was the problem!! With all this shit, my computer gets online fine through the same wall connection.

anyone know what the hell could be wrong?

hmmm

do you have a router or a hub ( switch)

Try resetting modem first then when that comes online, reset router, hub, and that should do the trick, you probably have just have all the IP addresses you are allowed from your isp used up by the sounds of it

damn wish i could help ya, altho i had the same problem except in my case my ass had my modem going straight to the router in an outport instead of the one that is designated to come from the modem. so long story short its works.

would i would do is go and re do your internet settings just have it auto set. since you dont have a router or a modem...

let us know how it works. because for the past week i have been so pissed i couldnt connect.

i always need to reset my modem when disconnecting my computer then connecting modem to ps3 i dont have a hub or router so anytime i wanna go online with ps3 i need to do this it wont connect online unless i reset modem.

so do you have cable internet? or... because if your talking about using an ethernet cable i think you might be pluggin it up to the phone jack... because my cable has to plug up to a modem.

i guess it would be high speed dsl, only thing I have is an ethernet cable that plugs into the wall and into my computer, not dial-up, it's pretty fast. Now, I just checked ip settings on my computer and the IP address is different that it used to be. Would that affect the way the ps3 and ps2 connect? I'll try and re-setup the connection. I don't know if I said this earlier, but on the ps3 it knows it's plugged in but fails to fully connect.

I bet you got only a 1 ip abo, reset your modem after switching you ethernet cable from pc to ps 3 OR buy yourself a router (not a hub/switch) and place after the modem .

sorry i dont have a more clear cut anwser, but since its in your wall already i cant really tell your to reset it, or to configure yoru router info manually.

but try that redoing your internet config just choose easy and it should set it self up.

how can you plug from the wall when it would be a raw coaxial cable not an rj45 ethernet cable? the coaxial goes into the modem then rj45 runs from the modem to your puter ps etc.

anyways when switching from puter to ps you have to reset your modem. unplug it for about 10 sec, plug the rj45 to your ps, power modem back on and WAIT till it boots all the way back on and wait about another 30sec after all the lights are solid to turn on your ps.

been playing the beta socom for the past month as well, i don't like it. interface reminds me of gta4 how the characters move and shoot and graphics.

i think cod4 is still the best shooter out there.

what is the differences between the IP your comp had, and has now. I am willing to bet that is your problem right there. Since your PS3 sees it is plugged in, but doesn't work, this is def an IP/routing issue. Since you live in a pre-wired apartment, you may have to call the support that manages the property, to find out who to talk to regarding getting the proper info.

The best long term solution though, would be to get that info, then apply it to a home router, that way your PS3 and comp could both be connected simultaniously

And no, not every connection uses a modem, actually, only a dial up connection uses a modem. Neither cable, nor DSL use a modem to connect anything (they are called that for consumers, but they do not MOdulate and DEMOdulate analog signals into digital signals and vis-versa, and are not modems)

yes of course there is a router, I just don't have access to it.

anyway things are working now, configured to the new ip. Thanks everyone for the inupt, appreciate it!

now where did you all get this beta version of socom? I can't really find anything about it other than having a subscription to some website you can get access to it. Not worried about that now, will be picking up the game tomorrow.
