Ok I'm starting to think I'm doing something wrong. Out of every single plant I've ever grown and flowered nothing has had a smell or taste that stands out. Could I be doing something wrong, could it be the nutes I'm using? I always allow them to get a good flushing, I let them flower until they look ripe and mature, I cure them I mean...I dunno what I could be doing wrong. My latest strain is the double strawberry diesel. It's the first strain I've grown based on a search for smell and taste. I have 2 different phenos flowering right at this moment. I know if I don't notice anything unique about these plants then I obviously must be doing something completely wrong. What do you guys do to make the smell and taste better. Is there any type of product I can put in my soil to help them pull out the shit outta them lol?

Organics will bring the flavor out. Having HID's too close to your plants can make them pretty bland as well.

dsd has a nice diesely taste, but with all strains, phenos vary .
u could get the strawberry tasting pheno

Well all I do is hang them up on in my harvest box, it has 3 strings in a row and I hang the branches up on them until they dry, sometimes I just lay them out on a paper towel until they're dry and I put them in the jar. I'm not saying that each strain wasn't a little different but nothing really stood out. I never thought what I'd put in the soil would have anything to do with the smell or taste, and I don't think out of all the seeds I've been through I missed just that many times ending up with bland phenos lol. I know I'm doing something wrong but I just ordered a bit of Floralicious bloom. Last time I was using Floranova bloom...Floralicious said it could help with aroma and taste, I'll see what happens.

In our experience, "amazing taste" is the rarest thing you'll find growing from seed. you can get plants for years with amazing health, great smell & bag appeal, and do everything "perfect" but you stil may not have found something that "tastes like the Jack that a buddy brought back from the coast" if you know what I'm saying.

the DSD could leave you hanging just as easily as any other polyhybrid from seed! The search is part of the fun

its all strain and pheno dependent, I grow in coco and run as many as 5 different strains at a time looking for those moms that will suit my grow style. buy more seeds and you will find that stinkey bitch your looking for.

Thanks for this thread, maybe it really is just the phenos that are letting me down. I never hear anyone complaining or saying anything bad about the taste of the c99, it always seems to have a good taste. I need to get some of those fuckin' beans! I have been saving money for that strain forever and no one will release them!

How long you keeping them in the jars? 2 weeks+ for most.
All about the cure. my buddy just chopped a bubblicious.
drying, it doesnt smell. curing...still not so much..after cure...SUCCESSS.
good luck with it though, a month cure would be peeeerfect.

I've allowed everything I've grown to cure for at least 3 weeks. I mean they all taste like something but I guess I just never had anything to taste like what I would want. Like something sweet or fruity. That's what I want to taste. Something that'd make me crave for more.

Im interested in this too. I smoked mango kush once and I was stoned after 4 hits. Half an hour later I still taste the mango and Im thinking im eating a mango

That's how long it takes before you can start to cure. Now that they're ready for jars, leave them in for a month or three.

mang everything i grow and harvest tastes perfect after 2 wks off the plants w/out cure in jars. most of what i'm growing and have except few bag seed is very nice directly off the plant and fast dried in large paper bags over course of 4-5 days.

There must be some generous people around, obviously a lot of nice variety there.

But with regards to taste, it would seem like if you can't admit that you feel like some (or most) specs taste unspecial, it probably says more about your standards than your growing & handling skills. Even a majority of hybrids sourced from elites will come out as something "less than special" when compared to the mother cut that everyone drools over. You still gotta dig hard..


But agreed that generally you don't need a good cure to get a sense for the flavors in the endproduct.. The good ones taste great even smoking scrap shade buds removed while still ferting. The cure is just making for a cleaner smoother smoke in general..

This may sound dumb, or off-topic, but I'm not sure exactly what kind of taste I should be shooting for. To the best of my knowledge, I've never smoked or grown a strain with a name. Heck, in the last 10 years I've probably smoked something purchased (not grown by me) less than 10 times. And that was always just what I presumed to be your basic brickweed. (I'm embarrassed to say that I live in a small town, I'm old, and I don't get out much.) But I've always noticed that, regardless of the potency, purchased weed always has a certain taste. It's the taste I've always associated with weed. Hard to describe, kind of sweet, with a hint of something almost incense-ish. What I grow has never tasted like that. Occasionally some will have a hint of that incense-like flavor, but that's about it. Not that what I grow tastes bad. I uses organics, I dry and cure properly (I think). So my stuff doesn't have a green or bad taste -- usually a very mild, sweet taste. Just different from the commercial stuff I've always smoked.

So I'd like to know what good bud should taste like. Should it taste mild and just a bit sweet, like what I grow? Or should it have that additional incense-ish overtone that the commercial bud I smoke has?

I don't think there is any one who can give an answer to "what good bud should taste like." I think taste depends on what you personally are looking for in that dept. As far as me I've always wanted a strain that got me just as high as the stuff I grow now but maybe tastes and smell a bit fruity or sweet. I've always leaned towards sweet, fruity, candy-like strains. I've read some people saying that those types eventually get sickening or undesirable but I don't see how the hell that would be lol. My dream strain is bud that is purple or at least slightly purple with a cereal-sweet smell to it, like fruit loops and to taste similar to the smell or even sweeter/fruitier. That would make my fuckin day tenfold.

hey OS thx buddy i havent growen Whitemustang by itself i have it in several crosses i was gifted. but JDogg6000, scrappy and few other have growen her out and documented it fully. do a search on white mustang in the icmag search bar
