Thrips and No pest strips

Y

yamaha_1fan

well mine has to be some type of bug damage. I have this issue on all my plants, 3 flowering tables, moms, vegging clones.

I got my Monetray this morning and I am going to mix it up and spray tomorrow since lights are off now.

Whatever

Have you seen anything yet cause I've lost track? You really need like a 5x or so magnifier...but I'm getting old and my eyes don't work like they used to lol but still a low power magnifier is a GREAT tool. Thrips move around a lot but if leaf damage you should, but not always, find at least some immature thrips on those leaves or in that general area at least.

Thrips are not a huge deal IME.

Actually yesterday in my veg room, I did notice them on the tops of a few leaves I checked.

I am getting ready to spray them today

Hello all,

I have come down with thrips also.

Well, out come the NPS. I have a small grow cab in a small sealed outdoor shed, they should work fine. We will see.

I have 2 NPS in each room. I also have sprayed my plants 2-3 times with the spinosad mixture and I still have these little bugs crawling on my leaves.

I wish I had a better camera

Hello all,

Y1F, Are you just being re-infected or that you have not been able to knock them out completely?

PS. Wentin to the shed today...saw many shriveled up spiders hanging from a single thread...it was wierd, like insect armageddon. Buahahahaha

Yamaha please keep us posted on that thrip prob. Usually 2 applications of spinosad about a week apart will end the proble. Glad you finally found the stuff.

The problem seems to getting better. I dont see as much damage. I wanted to wait until after a harvest and cloning to do another spraying. I need to do another one. Maybe tomorrow morning if I have time.

I wish I could take pics of them.

Hello all,

Well its been 8 days since I deployed the NPS. I have nto seen any further damage from them but that may mean nothing.

I had the NPS handy and used them. I will remove them at day 10 and we will see if it worked. I have a small NGB style cab in a small sealed outbuilding so I think the concentration of the dyclorvas (sp) should be high enough.

I know 12 hours after I put it out the spiders int he room were all hanging from a single thread dead as can be.

Anyway, if it does not work I will get the spinosid.

I went down and cheched the plants. One table that I just loaded has no signs of any damage.

Most of the other plants have new growth which doesnt seem damaged either. I didnt look too hard for bugs cause time was short. I did spray everything again this morning.

I think its working.

Now if I could just figure out these rust colored spots... ugghh

No offense to anyone but all these Cannabis growers that resort to pesticides at the first sign of pests, especially since most of them are not certified applicators, makes me nervous every time I get something from an unknown source.

If you have a small grow or plants that can be moved around thrip populations can be managed with just a blast of water every few days. Use a hose or bring them in the shower. Depending on the temp in your room you can spray frequently enough to keep them from reproducing and eventually be rid of them. If you have a small controlled population in flower it shouldn't do enough damage to reduce your yield... and I know I'd rather smoke a thrip than improperly applied pesticide residue.

LOL, That would take about a week to wash all these down in the shower

The spinosad is organic and labeled safe for for food crops I believe.

All the people that complain about pesticides, I wonder if they smoke cigarettes?

I have had thrips for years...

And have been using the no pest strips for most of that time....

however I do something like what you say....

I fetch a nice pan of water....

and shake and tap the plants over the water..... many fall in....

which controls the population....

but even this method is a pain in the ass....

Im a little skeptical that this type of intervention or the type you specify would ever get rid of the population entirely....

Ive been meaning to try spinosad so the next time Im in the big city I will pick some up........

Got thrips, first time 8 years inside. Read here about Spinosad and had no qualms about using it. No way could I tolerate the thrip shit on the leaves nor the damage they do. Spinosad as said is organic (discovered in an old rum distillery), actually a bacteria. It breaks down in 8 days. The viruses transmitted by the Western thrips, by their saliva, can be transmitted plant to plant. Only did one application(had minor infestation caught quickly), and here 2 weeks later, no thrips, nor their damages. I'm willing to use until flowers. Much thanks to those that recommended Spinosad!

Hello all,

Well out go the NPS. I see not further damage but that may mean nothing and they could come back with a vengance.

I am going to get some spinosid and dose'um also.

I do not know if I was actually smelling the declorvus or if it was in my head but I have been very uncomfortable in the grow shed these last 10 or so days.

Nothing wrong with spinosad or neem but yes I agree NoPestStrips should be used as a last resort, before you throw away your plants.

Most of the comercial stuff people injest like, pepsi and doritos, is more toxic than weed grown under a couple of no pest strips, IMO.

I kind of agree...lol. What amazes me sometimes are peeps who grow organic and eat garbage.

As for the strips...I dunno...I've just had great success using em. They never failed me.
