DocLeaf...how was your summer dear?? busy Im sure!!

Yep been busy harvesting seeds from food crops at home and learning how best to dry and store them all,, plus making some pickles, and chutneys , and mint sauces, for Xmas.

Haven't been out scrumping once yet this season (hangs head in shame),, but we did harvest 20kg plus apples from trees we got growing,, and already started making cider and pies and things with them :D

Cherry tomato crop was the best we've ever had this year,, and the chilies are hot hot hot

peace out
DocLeaf :joint:

Cool Mrs B. :D

Scrumping - from Old English - dialect meaning to forage (fruits) from an orchard, wood, or garden without permission [variant of scrimp].

i.e. Adam and Eve got caught scrumping by God in the Garden of Eden

Scrumpy - from Old Cornish - a cloudy cider made from apples.

peace peace peace

Yo Mrs. B

In the spirit of preserving foodstuff ,, we pickled some garlic this year,, as an experiment,, but it already went blue

Did some surfing on tinter-web and it says this is normal reaction between vinegar and sulphur compounds in the garlic,, ( or something scientific like that.) :D

Although these now look completely toxic, kill ya down stuff,, they are perfectly edible,, and are now void of the properties that could/would/should give garlic breath (or garlic pon lung). Plus it's a neat way of preserving garlic cloves (ready for cooking) over winter months,, the cauliflower and chillies, pepper corns where added with a spoon of sugar,, for no reason other than i n i must have been stoned when making up that bottle/cans. hehe

Peace out, and keep it homegrown/foraged/scrumped,, :D

Edit: these pickled garlic cloves make an excellent base to many curry, salsa, jambalaya, and saute recipes,, personally we'd add some crushed fresh/wet garlic to most of the above recipies if we wanted to add the garlic flavour to the dish,, pickled cloves also make a good addition to homemade chutney,, alongside the left over "ringal" (vinegar)

Hmm that looks like some good jam lol. Down here my aunt makes lilikoi or "passonfruit" jam taste alot better when you use fresh fruit right off the bush/tree..

Happy New Year Mrs. B!!! Who could POSSIBLY love your jam more than I? I'd easily duel at 20 paces (if necessary) to ensure a taste:

6 months later we have the spoon ready to taste this jam Mrs. B (is it ready yet?).. lol

We plan on making pales and pales of wine this season with the brambles (for winter) and maybe some jam with any other soft fruits. The strawberries are all but eaten for this season :yummy:

Hope the fruits reap their rewards again this year Mrs B

I recommend the variety 'Cambridge Delight',, they are early and nice when ripe... i've been eating them Italian style,, sliced and fridge for a few hours with lemon juice and some sugar :D

Yeah the berry crop looks bountiful this year (as predicted  ) ,, need to start preparing to go foraging for wild raspberries soon :Bolt:
