So I got out to my plants today in this shit weather (2 plants) to find alot of mold on one and a little bit on the other, smaller one. Today is around Week 6 of flowering and I don't know what to do. I've never harvested outdoors, thus never dealt with mold or rot. Rain is forecasted for the rest of today through sunday, which isn't going to help my situation. So what the hell do I do?!?
Cut 90% of it get rid of the moldy shit and save the rest?
Harvest some and leave the rest, remove the moldy buds off the plant and hope the others dry out?
I really need any advice or help asap cause regardless Im going to have to go back out there tonite. Also, they will be sitting in bags for a while so what am I supposed to do? Dab with paper towels and hope for the best? I cut 2 branches down and trimmed/separated the buds already and thats what those buds are doing

Sorry for being such a n00b but I know you guys can help me out! :bashhead:

i say pray , i found some bud rott myself today and cut it out, i will check the rest tomorrow, good luck, thats why im glad i have some mexi bagseed for next year. these indoor strains im finding dont do as good outside. i will try to cross what grows good here next year with some indica and see if its more mold resistant. i find mexi bagseed to be mold resistant most of the time, its bred outside , me thinks

This is my third year outdoors... I've been an indoor guy for over a dozen... I have had mold every single year... and because of it.. rain and late maturing striains never got anything really worth smoking.. or that compared to the indoor..

However this year I had earlier finishing strains.. and though I have had to cut at about where you are... IT IS BETTER THAN LOOSING OVER HALF AND NOT HAVING THE OTHER HALF REALLY GET ANY BETTER cause it rains and gets colder etc..

I would cut all the big buds that have ANY signs of bud rot whatsoever.. then TAKE THOSE BUDS APART AND REMOVE ALL SIGNS OF THE ROT or it will spread to the good bud during the drying process...

leave some of the smaller buds to see what happens... but like a stock that has gone up TONS since you bought it.... LOCK IN YOUR PROFITS... cut the main buds that look worthy or look like they will get infested or are infested...

Peace
BB

thanks for the quick replies guys. Although I only grabbed 2 branches, that were falling down and most near the ground, it was mostly the top buds and not neccesarily the biggest buds that were moldy and shit. In my panicked state I did check the big buds but they looked okay, even peering into the inner parts still looked okay. The stock analogy makes alot of sense, I have been growing these girls since FEBRUARY! Thats like 9 months...and I might go into post-partem depression if I lost them haha. I'll let you know what happens once I go out again, doesn't mean Im not looking for more replies though!

I'm in the same boat. When I was home at lunch I checked my plants and found mold on one of my plants which is about 2 weeks from optimum harvest. I'll be headed home after work and harvesting the bigger buds on that plant. Much better to take it a little early than have it all rot.

Mold can move incredibly fast, and once it gets started it spreads like crazy. I'll be leaving the lower / looser buds, it's the real compact buds that tend to get it the worst, but from here on out they'll be getting a daily inspection.

My advice is use a nutrient such as MOAB or Cha Ching to crystallize the plant as much as possible the next few days after careful removal of mold then if rain persistes harvest it all soon,it will be more sticky.do not over water.

Well the deed is done. Cut all the big buds from the big plant and anything that looked like it was going to fall on the ground/anything near the ground so no water/shit would climb up the plants through the leaves. When it rains my plants get flooooded, only felt 1/2 fucking crazy standing in about 3-5" of water with a flashlight in my mouth for about an hour. ended up filling a 13 or so gallon bag, left alot on the smaller plant cause it seemed less effected minus a branch or 2 that I cut and also less developed.
Thanks for all the replies, once again, no way I would have made it this far without this forum!

holy shit, 7 day outlook just came up....alllllllll rain, I don't know if I believe it though..
hopefully this thread will raise awareness for anyone else outdoors especially in the NE. GL all in your last weeks

Rob: Nothing more frustrating than watching it pour down rain for like a week straight just knowing that your plants are out there, rotting. :badday:
Sounds like you probably made the right decision. In my case I spotted some small patches of mold, removed it as best I could and decided to let them go and keep an eye on them.
Weather forecast better here though. :D

harvest all that bud and get what you could get. chalk it up and dial in on a shorter flowering strain for next season. although rain is rain and you never know when it will kill you outdoors. I guess thats the luck of the draw. some seasons great , some seasons poor. happy trails

Try not to handle buds, pull on the little leaves to look inside them, rough treatment of buds will bruise them & they will mould more easily. Mould usually sets in worse 2-5 days after rain stops. Less of a problem if it is a cold heavy rain. Warm gentle overnight rain = mould. Fog is just as bad.

Cutt the mold out its just like bad cheese. You cant completly beat it this way but you can battle it. Get the budds inside and in a room with perfect drying conditions or pay horribly...

didn't know that..thanks. I'm still not sure how it happened to get rot/mold before the rain hit today, hasn't been significant rain here for a while, did get down to the low 40s though maybe a week ago. They will be properly drying in a few hours, right now they are layered in a paper bag, spent forever checking all the buds for mold, did catch a bit but overall not bad.
