First real grow

Hello everyone im new to this forum and growing business so please bare with me.

Just moved into my new place and just got myself set up for my first grow. Im renting a place so i have some limitations.

so far i have about 14 babies in soil going under a 400w mh conversion bulb in a hps ballast. Most of them were started 9-5-08 but 2 of them were started on 8-23-08. All of the seeds are bag seeds i have accumulated over time so i am not sure what to expect which is one reason i choose to use bag seeds. I plan on sexing them in about a week or so and if there are a good amount left im just going to SOG.

My set-up is a little ghetto rigged right now because i am a poor college student and am having trouble accessing all the necessary materials and tools. I plan on building an enclosure hopefully within the next month or so.

I will post pictures later once i figure out how or once someone tells me how.

Thanks and keep earnin' and burnin'

You'll need a few more posts (3 total?) before you can post photos. Under User Menu is the option to upload photos to the IC gallery. Once there, the next time you try to post, your gallery will appear below the message entry box. Click on the pic to add it to your post.

You'll see the default layout is to place urls below one another.

Looking nice there Johnny Blaze. Some fat leaves on some of those plants.

Take some cuts from them first for some clones, then throw them into flower. That way you have your bud sooner, and you get to keep the females for another round soon. Just make sure you keep track of who's who.

I made a real cheap and simple cloner that would work well on a college students budget . Check out the link at the bottom of my post. I use some rooting hormone, peat pucks, and put it in that dome on top of the perlite and I've never lost a clone. Just make sure you keep the lid on and don't leave it off for too long when you do let them breath.

Keep it updated and keep on growing the good stuff,
FB

Edit: I'm harvesting my outdoor grow this weekend. You should check that out when the time comes... Had a few dry up and die on me last time I checked but I found some monsters still. An 8 foot haze that won't be done in time almost made me cry... :fsu:

Updates

What it is everyone Johnny B here with an update.

So i did a little trimming today all is looking well.
Probably gonna wait monday or tuesday to start them on the 12/12 so that i have time to take some clones in my new handy cloning machine :jump: .

This is the cloning machine i made. I took some gatorade bottles and cut them in half and put a hole in the bottom which i stuck a piece of t-shirt through so it was half in and half out. then i just added some perlite and peatmoss and set the bottles in a tray of water. When i get some clones in there i just have to cover the top with some seran wrap and a rubber band.
Still need to let them get a little bigger so i can take some clones.

This is my little helper/guinea pig.
I found him in my grow room which is infested with spiders, crickets, and sow bugs. I pretty sure the other bugs arnt going to harm my babies but if im wrong someone let me know. Also anyone know what kind of catapillar this is or what it is going to become? I stuck him in a pot and am feeding him some trimmings. Interested to see what happens with him.

Moving on.........

Heres one of my babies shes looking good and bushy.

These 2 im doing a little experimenting with. im trimming all the fan leaves in hopes that the nodes will grow a little bigger. the one the nodes are going good the other one they are still small. Ive heard if you trim everything except the top few nodes the main bud will be a fatty. Anyone every try this? how did it turn out? and if you are wondering about the girls names on the pots since i dont know what strand they are i figure this is the best way to tell them apart with some added wishful thinking.

heres the temp and humidty from what i read this is pretty good.

next update is probably when i find out what sex they are.

Til then, Keep Earnin' and Burnin'

I love the DIY cloner you put together there, can't wait to see how they root out in her.

Keep up the good work,

Don't caterpillars eat plants or am I going crazy??? Watch out for bite marks on your little ones JB. The cloner looks nice, keep it damp and you'll have some roots for sure. You might wanna take an extra just in case some don't make it...

They look nice and green though man. As long as you can keep them green, you're definitely doing something right.

You thinking about setting up a veg area too when you flip the lights?

Good stuff. when you are comfortable with your growing I'd throw a 1k in there, looks like a good space

Yeah ur not crazy FB but this little guy is in lock down and hes the only one of his kind that i have found so i think im good. I was thinking about setting up a veg but im gonna need to build something so that no light gets out into the flower area.

headiez - depending on this first batch eventually i would like to get a 1000w. if i can get a good system going i may just stick with the lights i have. I have another 250w hps thats not in use right now im working on something for that.

Once my room is fully operational for the time being ill get some more pics up.

Peace, Pot, Microdot.

Pulling fans to increase growth equals unplugging a radio to hear it's music. Machines don't operate deprived of power.

I wish these babies were machines that would be a little more reliable lol. I get what you are saying but radios can't adapt like a living thing can. i still have fans at the top which supply the plant with some energy but im hoping since there is a lack of fans near the bottom then it will force the nodes to get bigger to make up for the loss kinda like how topping forces the plant to regrow new tops. I could be wrong somone help me out. thanks

Well the fan leaves have already been pulled, so we will see. But generally FreezerBoy is right :spank: It's easier to get away with when they have more nodes also...

But if you wanna make those nodes grow, just starting bending them over and LSTing them. It won't stress the plant like topping, and you'll get better light penetration without losing those fan leaf power centers.

But if you're throwing them into flower soon, you'll have plenty of height to just let them grow like Christmas trees. When you flip them into flower, you can always cut off the small undergrowth and that will produce bigger colas on top.

This girl right here was just lsted, no topping, and she's one hell of a little bonsai tree. The splotchy-ness is just her yelling at me for a new pot :cuss: . I'm sorry but I don't have one right now... She needs to tough it out... Jeez

See ya around,

Alright tomorrow i start sexing them they are getting to be a good size. I took some clones off of a few of them that had big enough cuttings. I stuck them in DIY cloner with no hormone so hopefully they take. On another note when should i start fertilizing? i was thinking about starting on low dosages this week and slowly bumping it up. Also, some of my babies stems are turning purple-ish. something to be worried about? somone help me out. thanks.

hello everyone who may still be out there! anyways just posting an update. Is started them on a 16/9 cycle and hopefully this will get the sex to start showing up and at the same time keep them vegging for a little longer.

This is what the room looks like now. still pretty ghetto rigged but its at least better than before. i figure i will be easier to change the setup once i figure out what i am actually working with in terms of females.

I only took a few pictures of some hopefully females

This one i named Marissa and so far shes lookin fine. shes got a good height not too stretched and has a lot of good nodes going.

This next one is Megan she is quickly becoming one of my favorites. shes is about 8inches tall and his very bushy . this is the type of strain im looking for so i have a lot of positive enegry for this one.

Finally is my other hopeful Scarlett. she definately stands out above the rest. her leaves have a very different shape compared to the rest of the group. Shes about a foot tall with lots of closely spaced nodes.

that is all for now more when i find out sexes.

JB

i think hes refering to low stress training which is basically training your plant to grow in a certain way by using low stress methods

Looking awesome JB. Nice and green looking ladies.

Fingers crossed for girlies over here!! :joint:

hello to all still out there. JB here with an update.
So its been about 9 days now and i have moved them from the old 16/8 to a 13/11 about 4 days ago.

Smile :jump: family photo!
For the most part everyone looks happy. Some new additons to the family 3 more bag seedlings.

Now, on to the better news. To my amazement so far i have confirmed
5 females and 1 male. the other 8 still show no definate signs of sex.
So far thats a good ratio so far considering they were bag seeds. i hope the rest fallow a similar trend.

Time to meet the ladies :muahaha:

Rachel

Eva

Elisha

Naomi

And oh Jessica how you do me so right

Hopefully by next week we will have a full rooster.
I ordered a set of nutes from fox farm for them but the place is dragging. i also ordered some bigger pots and some rooting hormones so i can get the cloning going. That is is all for now keep your fingers crossed.
