Found some FLIR blocking Mylar

I just found this stuff. I figured I'd tell you guys about it since I've seen a lot of posts talking about that C3 film. Since the only place I've seen to get the C3 film is that one site in the UK I figured I'd post this.

A revolutionary new security product, Block-IR is made from NASA developed Infra-Red blocking technology. The two outer layers of Block-IR material reduce thermal imaging heat signatures by 97%. Each layer if Block-IR material is bonded to a durable layer of polyurethane for strength. An inner layer of insulation prevents conductive heat flow. An additional layer of polyurethane gives Block-IR high reliability and strength. Completely line any space with Block-IR for a 97% reduction in thermal imaging reduction. Don't be fooled by thin, cheap imitations that don't provide complete protection. This is the real deal. Accept nothing less. Foil tape is required for proper installation.

Wow, this is pretty interesting. Ironic too, seeing as it was developed by NASA(the government). This is probably also very expensive, but I believe it would be well worth it.

anyone know where I can find more info about heli grow searching?

sounds like it would insulate ur grow big time but if you got enough ventilation it sounds great.

Our reflective insulation is a safe, easy-to-use, thermal insulating material that provides cost effective, high efficiency performance for a wide range of applications. The Reflectix® Double Bubble product consists of two outer layers of a highly reflective material that reflects 96% of the radiant energy that strikes it's surface. This material is bonded to a tough layer of polyethylene for strength. Two inner layers of insulating bubbles resist conductive heat flow while a center layer of polyethylene give Reflectix® high reliability and strength. The Double Bubble product is recommended when the application calls for enhanced condensation control, greater strength and higher thermal qualities.

Sound familiar? Save your money, buy Reflectix.

lol sounds just like Reflectix. $12 a roll @ Home DePOT

What is that Reflectix used for? Where in Home Depot can you find it? If it's that cheap and you think it's the same thing I'm going to get some of it.

Hey Jonezin, just ask for "foil-bubble-foil" or "foil-double bubble-foil" insulation. I was at lowes a couple of days ago and they had it in the insulataion-heating-venting dept.

My guess is its the same as the "reflectix" brand, they had small rolls (about 16" wide-cant remember the length and wide rolls (48" wide-again cant remember the length)

not a clue on the price (didnt need any and was high at the time :joint: )

My guess is the Depot would have the same stuff.

hope this helps

Chances are they are never going to see your grow if it is inside a normal room. That is to say that an attic that has insulation on the attics floor and not on the ceiling is going to have unusual heat build up and who more heat on the roof. I heard of one grow busted from being the only house with no snow on the roof.

They also look for unusual heat signitures like ventilation, most homes try to keep all the heat in and it is unusual for a home to leak out energy.

I would imagine that a grow putting heat into the rest of the house would be a good thing. Fresh air and humidity for the winter (not to much, nobody likes it to be boiling or wet and sticky as a jungle.

The IR blocking marterial would be better for an outdoor ghillie suit, so if they did have a chopper when you where in the area and hidding from them you could feel much safer staying away from TECH searching tools looking for someone "responsible" for the plants in the area.

The military has been working on ways to keep soldiers hidden from TECH searching to hunt and destroy them.

A grow in a normal room is unlikely to be seen as long as the windows are of good insulation and covered. If you have poor home insulation, having a grow tent that is more secure would benifit (we do seem to try to cover every possible route to failure, but then again failure has had ways of proving to us and this isn't a nice suprise).

hope I was clear and helpful, nice find on the IR resistant marterial; I have been thinking of making a nice ghillie suit. Well, I was thinking the best way to avoid contact would be a nice re-breather closed circuit system and some swampy fun swimming time. I get really freaked out about just waltzing away from a grow if something went bad quickly (or even in my imagination).

you lot forget that FLIR can not see through walls!

that hand held device is right infront of the lights, & its seeing a heat patch off the reflector.

if the handheld FLIR device was outside the house, it wouldnt see the heat signature, if that setup is venting the heat into the room the temts in, & there high wattage lights, then the handheld FLIR "might" see the glass windows look warm from the outside.

so if u have an outdoor green house with regular Polly, and with good ventilation, would FLIR be able to pick up heat or reflectivity?

Yea I have used flir at work. It will not see into the house. Say your grow is on the west side of your home then flir from a getto bird would see that side of the house warmer from the walls heating up.

I've always just painted in inside of my grow cabs snow white. I know it doesn't block IR, but it reflects (I believe) 85-92% of light energy back on the plants.

Maybe I'll get some of this once I grow outside of cabs.

That has nothing at all to do with FLIR and your heat signature. Just a means of reflection.

Unless you work in LE, your analysis is invalid. See Below.

Wrong.

Hand-held HVAC/Gas/Electrical FLIR imaging is not the same as a LEO FLIR device, either aerial or hand-held. Are you a Law Enforcement officer trained in operating equipment certified and maintained for gathering evidence in a court of law?

LEO FLIR can distinguish the IR signature of rat from a cat. It has resolutions in half degrees! They will not only see that that side of the house is hotter, they'll be able to tell the exact room that is the source.

The worst part of your assessment is that it completely misses the point. A FLIR image is shown as probable cause for a search warrant. All it needs to show is an "unusual pattern of heat dispersion in comparison to similarly sized residences nearby".

They don't have to be able to pick out individual leaves on a FLIR scan to bust you, they just need to show you are using and disposing of heat in a manner consistent with growing operations AND/OR in a manner inconsistent with your location.

So FLIR and heat dispersal certainly IS a concern, don't discount it.

While Reflectix is aa good product, and I know lots of guys that use it, in my opinion, your best defense starts at the grower.

In the US, a FLIR scan cannot be done without a warrant. There has to be some precipitating cause. Electrical Use? Nah, they don't usually look at that unless there is something else. Smell? Nah, we're not felonious-ly stupid enough to not have a carbon scrubber, are we?

What could it be?

It's usually

A) Mr. TalksALot and his bestest-bro-buddy-who'd-never-say-shit. Flipson Amisdy

B) Mr. Twocheep Topaypow-Runsownwire-Bypasmeta

Best way to keep them from seeing? Keep them from looking.

The Three "L"s:

No TelL
No SmelL
No SelL

But besides that, Reflectix and a diffuse exhaust system :D

I'm well aware of that.. I already stated in my post that this does not effect blocking of any rays, but reflecting of light. Please show me where I said anything about white paint blocking rays. Maybe you should read things a bit more carefully.

Then perhaps you shouldn't post it where it has absolutely no applicability or value?

I addressed your post just to make sure your post didn't skew anyone else's perception of what the issue is here.

I was discussing this topic.. again please read more carefully. We were discussing this product, and I mentioned in my post that ''I would consider buying this product if I was not growing in cabs''.

Please think more carefully before posting. Read my post in its entirety before you comment on it. I had already stated in my post that it does not block rays, and that I would consider buying this product if I was not growing in cabs. Please explain to me where I did not clearly say ''white paint does not block rays''. I believe everyone with even the simplest mental capacity can understand that.

Have a nice day. :tiphat:
