what am i doing wrong this time? leaves staying green during 2+ wk flush?

ok so this is a first. i've been flushing 2 plants for 2.5 weeks and 1 plant for 1 week. normally 2 or 3 days after i do the big leeching i notice the leaves start to lighten and eventually get to a yellowish color. i'm growing in grow bags and they've been a bitch to water the entire grow. i ran water for about 1/2 hour through each plant. easily 3x the amount of water to the amount of soil. oh yeah i'm growing in soil. they look beautiful. the buds are done, the trichomes are starting to turn amber and i'm ready to harvest. after i did the leech i only watered with ph corrected water. a few days ago i decided to see what would happen if i flushed in the morning before the lights came on because i've read that this is when the plant releases its nutrients. well sure enough the water came out a dark brown. i've flushed them for 3 days straight and the water is finally getting clear but the leaves are still green as can be. i added some final phase to the mix now and i'm really hoping to not have to uproot these and do the emergency air stone in a 5 gal bucket flush. i've tried to use almost all organics. the only non-organic products i'm using is AN's Big Bud, SensiCal Mg Mix, Liquid Karma (I'm not sure if this is organic or not) and I think I may have used Gravity on one of the plants. in veg, i use 100% organics. there is no nute burn except for the tiniest amount on the tip of the leaves. its almost hard to even notice at first unless you really look. so anyways, is it the growbags not having enough support to let the water run all the way through the soil (meaning the water just runs down the sides and a small amount foes through the soil)? the bags feel heavy as hell so they have to be absorbing something. do you think the Final Phase will help? also, what happens if 75% of the trichomes get amber is the bud just fucked at that point? i usually harvest at abut 25% and get nice couchlock high. any help would be greatly appreciated!!! :joint: :rasta:

Well there are several possibilites that could be contributing to this:

-- you might just need to flush more than it would normally take, depending on how well you controlled the salt buildup in the soil.

-- what type of soil is it? Miracle Grow, or any similar potting soil, would continue to release high levels of nutrients. It's obvious that you are not that dense and don't grow in MG.

-- if non of the above, which it likely is, then perhaps this strain is just different from the rest maybe.

indica dominant strains tend to stay green all the way to the end. my bubba stays green till about a week or 2 to go then go purple/green. my sour d tends to show the classic nitro def late in flower because of its sativa parentage. :rasta:

stop Liquid Karma 2-3wks into flower it'll keep your garden green after flush it was pointed out in another thread that alot of times 100% organic grows wont yellow much if at all. how long did you continue N ferts into flower i stop N ferts by end of wk 2 of 12/12 wk 1 they get full strenght n fert 2nd wk they get half strength.

cozy amnesia - I use an organic soil called "MJR Blend" by 4corners Organics. It's my favorite grow medium I've tried so far and I've tried all the FF blends and even some soilless and coco. The soil is very simple. Peat, earthworm castings, and pumice. The pumice aerates the soil pretty well by itself but I add a little bit of extra perlite to get it to the density that I like. The strain is OG Kush and I've run it a few times before in Basement Mix (coco mix) and once in soil. The leaves always yellowed very nicely, then they even turned reddish colors if the temps were right. beautiful if you ask me :rasta:

rightwingblazer - Your leaves are still green after you flush and when you harvest? Is there any noticeable harshness compared to a plant that leaves are yellow. It's definitely an indica strain. most of my grows in the past i've been able to get all of the leaves a nice yellow\autumn color before chopping and would get great, smooth smoke with white ashes.

majpothead - The moment that these plants went into flower, they were given bloom nutes only. I normally feed veg nutes when they first go into the flower room. As soon as they are thirsty again (2-5 days later), they get bloom nutes from then on. I did use some chem ferts - Big Bud, SensiCal, and maybe 1 other thing. everything else was organic. I fed LK until flushing (5ml\gallon).

Should I chop them now that they've been flushing for almost 3 weeks or just let them go until the leaves are yellow?

thanks for all the help everyone!!!!

How do the thrics look. If they're under developed keep going, if not, harvest. If you feel an insufficient flush was had, leave them in their jars for an extra month or two to break down remaining impurities.

jdubz- i flush for 2-3 weeks with pure water and sweet, sucanat, and molasses. no harshness at all. nice white ashe. better than or right on par with the shit in the clubs in cali. i know, i actually have toured most of the clubs here, north and south. the more indica dominant, the more it keeps its green. my shit is actually almost all purple with a little green harvest time. very slight yellowing. what strain are you growing? i take my bubba to 70 days. :rasta:

I think flushing -- or rather, plant metabolism -- is badly misunderstood. Or I'm badly misguided & misinformed.

My personal experience & understanding has been that flushing, and consequently yellowing, has more to do with the timing of the flush than the length. Timing is obviously strain-dependent.

For instance letting a strain go too long by feeding them (N-containing ferts) too late in the game can lead to never being able to get to a yellow, regardless of how (practically) long the flush is.

I fully believe that with proper feeding and control of the nute regimen, any grow, organic or inorganic, can end up with the "stereotypical organic yellowing" of the fan leaves.

george- take a look at pics of indica dominant strains like bubba, pup=rple kush, grand daddy. these wont yellow like sativa dom. strains do. there just hardier and more robust. now if you starve their ass to death for long enough then you could probably yellow them. ive grown a shitload of dif. strains and have alot of experience with varieties. :rasta:

My snow whites are still a deep green and showing no signs of yellowing at all despite being at their chop-time. It just happens sometimes, I doubt it's anything you've 'done wrong'.

Some of the more "Indica strains" that don't typically necessarily yellow, I've seen go purple / black / fall-Autumn color (golden, reddish, etc).

1 plant is @ 50/50 amber/cloudy. The others are 20% amber, a little clear, but the majority is cloudy. i'm going to let them go a little longer with plain ph'd water and see what happens. otherwise i will def just chop em and do a longer cure :(

rightwingblazer - i'm growing sfv og kush. i've been able to get it yellow before but like i said, it was in coco or in soil and planted in pots, not growbags.

george w kush - i'm with ya on the time of flushing. i agree as well since the plants slow down on nute\water uptake the further into flower you get. i've already started flushing the next batch, this is about 2 weeks earlier then i started last time. hopefully i won't lose any weight because the ones that are having a bitch of a time flushing are yielding the best so far of all the times i've grown this strain. do you think i'll lose any size or weight by flushing earlier?

noddy - thanks 4 the info. i think the only thing i may have done wrong is wait to long b4 flushing...

george again :) - yes, my last batches of og would turn yellow and the leaves would eventually turn red. very pretty :)

thanks everyone and if anyone else has advice, please let me know :rasta:

Yeah I think timing is absolutely key to properly grown and flushed buds. Exactly when to stop feeding or taper down or eliminate N and flush while not losing out on potential yield is part of the "dialing in" process of the strain. It's one that I'm still working at...

The pic you posted looks great, is that the girl you're talking about in the thread?
This is my remaining snow white as posted in another thread, still nice and green, began flushing several weeks ago now.
