Himalaya Gold (GHS co.) and Frisian Dew (Dutch Passion) Outdoor

Well.... I harvested two keeper phenotypes of frisian dews today.

And I will say this, the one phenotype is a definate keeper. It's was harvested today Sept. 12, about a week early due to the threat of rainy humid weather. I don't think I lost out on yield, just maybe some maturation of trichomes.

Not massive yielders, nor did they grow tall for me. From seed, I topped her twice, and then trimmed to each branch to grow to one main cola about 12-16 inches in length. And cleaned up any branches that were in the way. She turned out nicely.

However, from clone the FD really suprised me, she grew 3 feet tall, and produced solid nuggets with tons of hair, and a nice coat of crystal with a great juicy smell. Thatguy suggested a Orange juice smell and I would have to agree. Her mold resistance is great, but I did get some very minor mold after Hanna. Although it only amounted to a loss of 2 or 3 grams maximum. I did not get a photo of her, but I have one clone left that has hues of purple that I promise to get a photo of.

The yield appears to be in the 2-3 ounce range, dried. I harvested a couple nugs before Hanna, and they dried up very nicely. Has a great bag appeal. I would argue it is the nicest looking outdoor I have seen.

I will give a smoke report next week.

My site preparation varies.

I use either 10 gallon buckets, or dig a nice hole.

For prep of hole, I use dolmitic lime, veg bat guano, and bloom bat gauno. I then use terra canna vega, grotek monster grow and general hydroponic micronutrient for the veg cycle feeding once a week. Finally for bloom I used canna terra flores, GH micro and grotek monster bloom. I would also use super thrive and grozyme on occasion.

I do not foliar feed.

I have harvested one HG, that was at the end of her 6th week because of mold issues. The other HG won't be ready until End Sept, First of Oct. Although much bigger yielder than FD, even considering the mold loss.

Anyhow, i am in a rush, so i can't explain further. Catch ya again.

I'll have to see that HG! My FD is probably going to net me 4-6 oz. I've been smoking some of the keeper pheno, and I'm a definite fan of it!

Yo, I had fucking bud rot all over my FD!!! Lost at least 1/4 oz off my 1 plant.

I'm still happy, though. Should have gone out there on Sun, after the rains, but my dumb ass waited until Tues. Probably would have been much less if I'd gone Sun, but oh well. Live and learn.

The FD was pretty easy to trim, I have to say! Especially compared to my Passion #1. What a pain in the ass that strain is!!! Leaves all over the place!

All the best,
TG

Man, for some reason one of my FD clones produced purple buds, al purple, yet none of the fan leaves or larger bud leaves turned purple...

I harvested it on Friday, and it produced nice, tight nuggets, with a nice swollen calyx formation.

I am thinking this particular phenotype expressed the purple star genetics.

I also am beginning to wonder if some of the plants that showed the looser bud formation were stressed into flowering by being put out a little early... May 6th is early for where I am... so maybe the colder nights stressed the plants from expressing there desired traits?

Anyhow... I dunno, what happened, it's not a deficiency... and no mothers expressed this purple trait... weird eh?

I have pictures early next week.

How cold did it get prior to your harvesting the FD? Mine had no purple at all :(

Still, the important parts are there! It tastes amazing, very fruity with a touch of citrus, and is very potent as well! I smoked a bunch a couple of days ago, and got too stoned to drive for the first time in years!!!

All the best,
TG

It began turning purple around the middle of August, thats why I don't think it's temp induced. Recall, the strain purple star is the male used in this cross. Also, the leaves did not turn purple.

Never had that happen. Wonder why?

Maybe I'll get one or more next year, as I will be running it again!

Shevek, want to run notes past each other and do a combined post in the OD strainguide? Because North has a damn good point ;)

All the best,
TG

East Island Seeds: Dutch Treat
East Island Seeds: Blueberry x NL# 5
DJ Short: Timebomb
Dr. Green Thumb: Endless Sky, Columbian Skies, and Big Purps (improved kashmiri resin factory).
Serious Seeds: Bubblegum
THseeds Medocino Madness
VISC: Purple Pineberry

Let me know what you guys think.

I never did a smoke report, I'm not a daily smoker. Smoke less than once a week. But I will tell you how I feel.

I just finished my last nug of HG recently, and it was very satisfying. It's a strain worth growing. The Himalaya Gold is a nice outdoor smoke. Very pleasant, I found it to be thought inducing, in a mostly positive way. There was very little paranoia associated with the high, but it was an alert high, almost as if it enhanced my awareness (stimulatory?). It was smooth, and stored well in a glass jar.

The Frisian Dew, purple pheno was a nice uplifting smoke. Not as potent as the HG, but was a bit more uplifting. The type of smoke that makes you want to do something.
It also had a nice flavour, and stored well. I don't know how to desrcibe the flavor, but it was full flavor, a heavy smoke.

The FD airy pheno was not that potent. Not worth describing.

The FD dense citrus smelling pheno was a nice smoke, like the purple pehno but less flavourful and less uplifting. Either way a pleasing stone.

Both of these strains are worth growing outside. If you find a keeper, I reccommend taking a cutting because you'll want to grow them again. Of the outdoor I have seen and smoked, I would say the FD and HG keeper phenos produce top of the line product.

One of my airy FD phenos produced 17 seeds. I am going to try a couple in hopes some crossing over took place, so I can find a keeper again.

Where i live , N europe about same lattitude as yours , it finished 30 sept-15 oktober depending on the pheno

It is VERY mold resistant , out of the 20 FD plants i grew , only 2 where prone to mold , the rest had big compact nugs and even in pouring rain they didn't rot

The FD will finish in time in Ontario, I was growing in Nova Scotia.

The HG is more prone to mould, but she produces some of the stickiest outdoor buds I have seen.

The FD finishes earlier. I had all my FD harvested by September 20.

The HG is harvestable anywhere from mid Sept to end of September.
