Last week my sisters father passed away. He fathered my sister, but not I. After we learned of his death, he had willed of of his possesions to my sister. We drove 8 hours to a place in the boon-docks, to clean up all of his belongings, and do all of the legal matters. After we were nearly done, we came across a bunch of seeds in an old lock-box. He had passed from throat and mouth cancer due to his many, many years of smoking pipe tobacco. So we know he had not smoked in years, so there is belief that these seeds are probably 35+ years old. One of the vials is dated 1972. Well I'm going to try to germ about 50 of them. I took pitures of some real orange colored seeds in a new baggie as well. He used to be a conissuer, so Im confidant there could be some incredible landrace genes in there. Does any one have any ideas, or thoughts?

I'm sorry to hear of your loss....and ecstatic to hear of your find!!

I think all you can do is start germing a few from each jar and see what you've got in there. Once you've got some idea of what you're working with, you can make further plans. Good luck Mandzig!

I have started to germ about 50 of them. Nothing on any of them after 3 days. oops, I just realized its only been 2 days. They look almost black from being in the wet paper towel.

Great find! If it were me, I'd file the edges lightly and soak for awhile first in a very weak solution of Superthrive.

I always get a high proportion of twins when I do this. :joint:

Im praying they do, but so far nothing, and they are looking real dark. I have literally a 1000 seeds there, so I'm real hopeful something will germinate.

I will keep this updated, this is going to be something to see if any of these seeds will germinate that are that old. I know he hadnt smoked pot in at least 20-25 years.

Well if he was on the west coast as I am - yeah I'm that old! I was smoking a lot of Oaxacan. They had a fat roundish shape to the seed with a almost speckled coloring. That would be fantastic. The summer of 72' saw both Thai stick (small light colored seed) and panama red (med size darker even color). The most gut wrenching memory of that summer was I never paid more than $20 for a 3 or 4 finger bag.
