Ive just had my 3 seeds show a root, using the paper towel method.

I just madetiny holes in my pots and put the seed in root down and covered with about 2mm of soil.

Covered the tops with cling film, now where to I put the pots in a dark place or under lights????

Under lights so it grows up.

What kind of lights are you using and power...hope you looked up correct distance for seedlings.

150w hps, they havnt sprouted above the surface yet, so should I put em under lightd or do I need to wait till they sprout up before turning on the lights?

i would def put it dark - then its searching for the light, you know it cant absorb light with no green leaves...

I disagree. The seed is under the soil. Put the pot under the light so when it breaks out of the soil, it will grow towards the light. Also, the light helps keep the soil a little warm. Just make sure you keep the light a safe distance from the seedling as to not burn it. Good luck!

I leave them not under the light until they come up....

the light can dry out the soil and kill them...

plus the leaves dont open immediately anyway....

It really doesnt matter squat.....

Under the light. The soil provides the dark. As soon as they hatch, get them under the big lamp to prevent stretch. I put sprouts and rooted clones under the big lamp at "noon" so they only have a 1/2 day under the big lamp the first day. I'll also hang the big lamp higher for a day or two.

These things are designed to handle the Sun. Nothing in a cab will touch that kind of power. You can however fry plants with proximity to heat and IR. Thus the extra distance for a couple of days.

Thanks guys, I got them under my light now, with cling film over the pots to keep the moisture in to avoid drying out.

I vote with Dr Dog. Consider a soda bottle cut in half with vent holes poked in it. It will retain moisture without turning into a swamp.

Seedlings first react to gravity.
When you drop a seed into soil the root knows which way to go.
It grows down...not left, right or up.
Just keep it wet and warm.
However once it sprouts you should follow the advice you got here.
