With all of us doing some kind of Micro Grow, I was hoping to have people share some great ideas on how they do Air intakes in tight space and not have to give up and space any quality grow space.

I have seen Dark Room vents and was wondering how you guys keep light out !00%.

Well hope to hear from you guys

Thanks,

in my box i have 3 passive intakes in the bottom of the door with a piece of carbon fiber over the hole and i good sealing door thats all i do but everyone has a diff way

So does that really block light 100%? Can you take a picture of your box? I would love to see your intake.

Thanks,

MyBox

its pretty close to if you double it it should block it 100% of if you get carbon filter paper it would block it in 1 sheet

you can also use a couple 90 degree peices of pipe and thatll mak it light proof

Thanks for the info, the carbon filter paper would not use as much space as 90 degree eblows, since this is a super micro grow I don't have lots of space.

So I did some google search on the paper but don't see anything, would you mind pasting a link.

Thanks again for all your help.

get stoned and go look at the Home De Pot - they have tons of this kind of shit.

unless you paint the inside of the elbows black and silicone like a pro, you're probably still going to have some light leaks.

remember, these plants grow outdoors in nature with the stars and moon.

good luck.

maybe it would be a good idea for you to post some pics of your setup and others can see where you can place some intakes, that maybe you didnt think of.

stoners are visual as well as verbal thinkers, im sure once someone smokes abowl or two and looks at your cab for a quite some time , something will come to the mind of someone?

any pics of said small space?

You are so right, I will get my camera going :)

I will have a picture up of my future grow box tomorrow :)

the stuff you put the link of is the stuff thats over the my intake holes its also wraped around my filter there $9.99 at home depot id walk around and look tho maybe one of thos big filter for a home a/c could be cut down to the size you need

iv heard of ppl talking about carbon paper or if you can get hepa paper you could get paper with .01 microns i dont think anything can get threw that

idk if the carbon paper there talking about is the stuff like for transfer wrighting like when you sign a order form

im working on dyi a dresser and im gunna put the air intakes about 6" up inside the dresser and make that level with my grow floor so then the wood side of the dresser will block the light and the air will come under the bottom or from behind the dresser

wed all really like some pics i know one of us will have something for you

two layers of the carbon "pre filter" sold as a generic sheet for honeywell etc air purifiers will block 100% of thelight. 1 layer will let a little light through.

pvc 90's work well, but there is an area that is straight through so you must either use 3 90's, or put carb on filter on the end.

regular flex duct ran in a simple s shape or anything that isnt straight will also act as a light trap and block 100% of light transmisison. you dont need to paint it black iniside, but it doesnt hurt. the ducting is cheap and full of tiny holes.

Darkroom louvers are the most space-efficient & low-profile way to get the job done. They're not cheap, though.

Two PVC elbows that are spray painted black on the inside do the trick.

I cut out pieces of 1250 rated air filter to put over the intakes. I just use a rubber band. Trust me, they catch a lot of stuff. Also, I don't have any light leakage at all.

I used Gorilla Glue as a seal because it expands quite a bit when it dries:

There are four in the flowering chamber and four in the veg chamber:

The insides are sprayed with flat black to prevent light reflection:

I have a cool tube vent for the flowering side (not completed yet):

I made the holes around where the CFLs hang in the flowering room too big so that air can pass over the bulbs and up into the electrical room where it is vented out:

That's my ventilation system in a nutshell.

There's enough intake an exhaust that my cabinet is actually a couple degrees cooler than ambient when the lights are off. When the lights are on, the temps raise 5-8 degrees depending on what my blower is set on. It's only been run above the "Low" setting once; only for a few hours.

It runs quieter than a small table fan sitting on top of the cabinet.

what kinda fan you got there and if you dont mind how much did it cost?
wered you get the filter you put over the ends? do you know what micron the filter is?

how are your cfl's being hung if you hang them side was you get more points of light and the more points of light you have the better everything will grow

sounds like you did good

You can check out the Lasko blower mod thread in my signature for more info on the blower and how I modded it to fit in my electrical.

I understand that horizontal alignment is the way to go for bulbs/lamps. However, this type of setup allows air to be constantly flowing over them keeping control of the temperature within the veg chamber. This also allows the air to travel up into the electrical room where the ballast for the 150W rests to keep it cool too. I didn't have too much space to work with in the electrical room, or the veg chamber itself.

My plants seem to be plenty happy with the amount of light they're receiving though.

The walls and ceiling are painted with (titanium dioxide included) white paint aiding in the amount of light reaching the plants. Also, for ease of wiring and setup, I used vanity lights as the frame for the lamps. They were cheap and easy to install.

If you take a look at my cabinet in my signature, you can follow along in the construction and see how the lights are mounted in there in more detail.

Here's the filter that I purchased:

I read that you want it rated at, at least 1200 to filter out the nasties that could possibly contaminate your cannabis. It's a regular air filter that is accordion-like with the metal meshing. The meshing is removed easily enough and then pieces are cut to fit over the holes. The piece you buy in the store is rather large; enough for quite a few months. It cost around $15.00 if memory serves me correctly.

EDIT: I realized there weren't really any decent pics or explanations of why filtering your intakes is important so I created a thread. I would recommend checking it out if you are considering going without them:
