you know it could also be neurological damage too.. were you moshing, head banging or get hit in the head/neck?

i had this happen to me and it started with the hearing it was more of an echo/muffled noise than a ringing, then later on it started to effect my vision..

took 2 months to correct the problem and a decent sum of $$

if its just hearing loss, im not real sure theres anything they can do about it

i think you should seek medical help bro.....opinion of stoners about something as serious as hearing should not be taken seriously

It's down to the heavy metal head banging. Go raving instead. Better grooves all the time. That metal is not groovy.

I received complimentary tickets for a Whitesnake concert very close to the front speakers my ears rang for a day. My pants legs were moving to the noise. The only other time that happen was at a David Wilcox show in a Kitchener Hotel. IT WENT AWAY...LoL

Unfortunately, for those of us who enjoy the hell out of metal, Rave/House music will usually cause more headaches and ear ringing than metal cranked to 11 ever could...

:headbange

Seriously though, if it is persisting for more than a day or 2 I would see a Dr. I cant count the number of times I have had ringing in my ears after a good show, or the nuber of times Ive been hit in the head in the pit, but it never lasts more than a few hours the next day. Dont hesistate to get it looked at ASAP... No sense in making the problem worse by not getting immediate medical attention.

Hope it goes away man.

Go to a rave and put your head in the air hole in the subs and see what ringing in your ears is all about. It will go away after a day or two sometimes three. If it doesnt though go to a doc.

The answer(s) are simple, but probably not what you want to hear (no pun intended):

1) Yes, you did do damage to your ear. That's what the ringing is.
2) When the ringing stops, you will not have the same dynamic range of hearing you used to have, but you won't be deaf. You probably won't be able to hear some higher range sounds however. Most people don't notice this type of loss in their day to day lives.
3) It SHOULD go away unless you caused some more extensive damage, if it persists for longer than a few days I would see a local doctor. There's not much that can be done however. There's no pain medication for it and no treatment I'm aware of.

In the future bring some earplugs with you to dampen the sonic barrage. You'll still be able to hear the concert fine, but you won't cause as much damage. I know they were selling earplugs at the recent NIN show I was at.

Basically if the band you're listening to is using earplugs, it might be a wise decision to follow in their footsteps.

accessndx hit the nail right on the head. I couldn't have said it better, myself. The good news is that the ringing will subside. Once it does, the noticeable difference in hearing ability between your two ears will drive you nuts, at first. It seems like you adjust to it pretty quickly, though. And I know that it's not 'cool', but wear earplugs when going to concerts and/or shooting guns. I fucked up the only sense of hearing I'm gonna get, and I'm just thankful it's not too bad!

Feel better, and Stay Safe,

GO IMMEDIATELY SEE A DOCTOR (TODAY) !

The "ringing" sound is like a continuous and very high toned kind of whistle ?
If that's like this, they are called acuphens and in quite many cases it will never go away (in some others, yes).
Likely too, you could have lost audition in the high range (4K hertz and above if I recall), maybe temporarly, maybe not.

During my military service (16 years ago), I lost a part of my audition to an explosion : still today, I hear badly in the highly ranged sounds (too, in a crowded restaurant with a lot of noise, it's very difficult to hear conversations) and I still have those acuphens (you get used to it with years).

The thing about going to your doctor TODAY is that it is possible to minor the damage (maybe) if acting immediately (if I recall, again, doctor will give you some anticoagulants or something like this).

In the ear, there are some cells that don't regenerate (like in the brain) so once it's gone, it's gone...

I used to go a lot in raves too, 15/20 years ago, and that certainly didn't help.
In concerts now, I'll usually put some protections inside my ears, it's really a smart move to do because once your ears are damaged, quite often it is forever.

Thanks for the replies people. Well Its been day 2 and my left ear has a very faint ringing sound. Not as bad as yesterday or the night of the concert. I'm pretty sure its going away slowly, but I'm just worried about it because its my ears and I hate ringing noise. If it is still ringing tomorrow I will get it checked out for sure! First night I went to my friends heavy metal show and I was standing real close to the speaker. Then the next night saw Slightly Stoopid and Pepper and Sly n Robbie and I was up close for a while near the subs. But yeah, I hope this shit goes away! Peace

As long as it is getting better and no pain? take a bunch of ibuprofen today and before you go to sleep to lessen inflammation.
