Emergency!!!! My Cuttings are dying!!!

so yesterday i took cuttings to make clones for the first time, i took 6 cuttings from my 2 outdoor kali mist plants, they were dipped in cloning solution and then put in to rockwool cubes, that are all sitting in a Tupperware filled with some vermiculite, i misted them and left them alone, this morning i checked up on them and they are all wilting and look like they are dying, so i thought it was maybe cuz i dont have a humidity dome so i put a clear plastic bag over the tupperware, what else can i do, i have to root these clones so i can preserve these genetics, i dont feel like buying expensive ass kali mist seeds at the time

do u guyhs think these cuttings are doomed

plz help, i will post pics in a few hours, if they have not already passed on

Hey FB., if it were me,I'd take them out of the rockwool cubes and put them in a jar/vase of water, recut the stem if necessary .They should perk up in a couple hours.
After they straighten up,take and put them in moist potting soil.A dome might help but I don't use one and have good success in rooting clones.
I don't have experience with rockwool,I do all my rooting in straight up Pro Mix,just keep it damp.
hope this helps

I root in rockwool quite frequently with no problems. But I always use a dome. Did you trim the bigger leaves on your cuttings? Trimming the leaves cuts down on transpiration and reduces the weight the stem must support. A plastic bag is probably better than nothing for a dome, but another tupperware would be better. Also, mist the inside of the dome, not the plants directly. If the cuttings are not too far gone, they should perk up in a few hours.

I would not suggest changing methods at this point. If they are going to root, they'll root as well in the r/w cubes as in anything else.

How much light are you using? You only need a little cfl (20 ~ 25 watts) to root under. Anything much brighter can be counterproductive.

Once the cuttings root, the plants will need to reveg, which is a rather strange metamorphosis, so don't wig when the plants start looking like arugula.

Pictures would help to see if they're too far gone, just keep misting them and continue using the humidity dome. What kind of light are you using?

i am using 3 cfls, i will post pictures soon,

1 cfl is plenty. they dont need very much light when trying to root. low light.

I have never misted my clones nor do I use a humidity dome and mine root just fine.

I have a dyi cat litter pail aero cloner. here is a couple shots of 18 clones taken this morning. roots will show 8 - 12 days.

when needing just 1 or 2 clones, I use jiffy peat pellets from walmart in a small cup. this method works everytime. roots in 13 - 15 days. see pics

Don't give up on them. I've had cuttings that have totally keeled over recover, and live on.

I hardly ever use a humidity dome.

when ever i try to clone without a dome they just fall over in a couple of hours. all about skills i guess. i now have getting close to a hundred clones under my belt. i have found using the basics dome, heat mat, rw or peat ,nice size cutting and patience have been my keys to success in cloning. just listen to the experts in here i am not 1 and you will be just fine have a good day.

he's right they will be fine most likely, but I would use a humidity dome of some type. Doesnt have to be completely clear either, you can use a white translucent one if that's all you have. GL :joint:

I read this yesterday and thought "I'd hate to have sick clones, they seem so delicate"
When I went to check on mine this morning after the weekend- they looked like they were dead cos they were so dry.

I watered them and they popped back up. Gotta love the plant

How big are your cuts? Without roots, the plant can't use or support leaf material. Keep cuts short and leaves trimmed and the dome becomes unnecessary.

I cover my cuttings with a zip lock bag. It just helps with keeping the soil moist in the tiny trays. If I had to keep manually watering them I'd be bound to fuck up at some stage.

props to you freezerboy, i just got finished with a set of 22 i made 6 of them 2-3 inches long and the rest typical size. not one of smaller six rooted all of my others rooted. the ones that fell over was just a few weeks ago. my inspiration for not using a dome on that occasion was reading your stuff i am not where you are yet but i hope to be someday hopefully.

It's all Voodoo, I tell you. What guarantees success for some spells death to others. Keep trying stuff till something works.

I wouldn't worry about the wilting, my clones(first ones) looked like hell. I started to panic and my buddy told me to chill, so I did. Didn't overwater them like he told me and this morning I checked and there were a few roots popping out of the rapid root plugs. I use a humidity dome which I mist 3 to 4 times a day. Saw this daisy cloner on ebay, holds 8 clones. Anyone know anything about this? Think its made by botanicare(spelling?)

I think u got too many cfls's............i guess heat is your problem
I got one 14w cfl in my fishtank cloner...and its plenty.....

Oh....btw......i use 20mm black pipe with a slit in the one side(to remove the clone when rooted)
and fill it with perlite...???(volcanic ash..)

mist it and the medium suck up the thin layer of water in the bottom of the tank....

mist every second day........

(edit)....oh...and ignore the clones in the shotglasses..
its clones i saved from the bubble cloner....cause i started getting root rot and moved to the perlite..
