Vertical SOG question

I am considering several different layouts for my next grow and had an idea that I'm not 100% sure will work.

Set up a vertical SOG, but instead of having short plants at different tiers, instead just have one tier of plants and let them get tall. Could you prune them to have a single cola about 30" tall, and have that be a 30" tall solid bud? I was thinking with the HID center lamp and possibly some T5s on the outside of the circle of plants you could develop some long donkey dicks, assuming the right strain of course (a strain with tight nodes - Sensi Star, White Widow etc.).

Just curious if this is a viable and efficient way to grow. I don't mind a little bit longer veg to get the height.

Thanks!

bumpin this because I've been conteplating the same thing with a 1k verically in a 5'6"x5'6" tent

I was thinking of vegging the plants for a month or so (until about 1.5-2 ft tall), lollypopping 1-2 weeks into flower, and hoping for some crazy stretch and big 4ft long 2-3oz single colas.

was thinking it would be away to get nice yields with the potential of a perpetual harvest, pulling 1 or 2 plants out per week, while keeping my numbers low.
Thinking I could use 5 gal containers in a soilless organic mix (lime, kelp, blood meal, bone meal), fitting about 12-16 of these plants around the edge of the tent with the 1k in a vertical cooltube.

SOG = sea of green not really a verticle set up.

Verticle is a PIA because it's hard to keep the plants from frying on the bulb- it becomes a verticle SCROG.

YMMV

geek speak: I think it's understood whats being talked about. We all know what the acronyms 'sog' and 'scrog' mean. At least I hope so.......

Vertical (not 'verticle') growing can be used to maximize bulb efficiency if done correctly, so a little more work may be well worth it for a few of us.

I don't think this needs to become a scrog..........who says you need a screen? Why wouldn't plants just be tied to stakes if they got topheavy?

If it makes you feel better, just pretend the title is 'donkey dicks around a vertical bulb question' instead of 'vertical sog question'

now that we're past that technicallity.........

Thanks for being pedantic about the spelling of vertical.. that really propelled the discussion forward...

Why is he asking about a vertical 'sea of green'????... it helps if the questions actaully make some sense.

Uh, top heavy is two words and you spelled technicality wrong.

I do vertical grows and I think one of best reasons for growing this way is because it is easier to produce those long 'donkey dick' buds. Having the light coming from the side allows a lot of penatration to the plants and allows excellent usage of all avaiable light. That said, I think your idea would work, but you would be loosing one of the benefits of vertical if you choose to keep the girls as 'one bud' plants. Tree grows are optimal for this method because the light enters deep into the canopy when coming from the side and the heavy foilage doesn't shade the interior as it usually does when coming from the top. I think your idea would work but it will loose a little of its benefits at the same time. You will get killer fat and long buds though - which would be amazing. If you do decide to go this route I will be watching with enthusiasm as I have never seen it done this way before. Good luck!

back side's will lack light.......... you can do less tier's but not 1....

ie 4 tier's of 10 plants each and do a scrog type set up but the whole point of "vert sog" is to pack them in and watch what happens :p
