Looking for Ideas

Hi guys
Working on my 3rd grow now, and thinking about #4. I grow just for personal use for myself. I am only growing 3-4 plants at a time, all of the same strain, for uniformity(which may be a mistake for me - not sure). Am currently growing Nirvana AK-48.
Now to the questions
Would I do better to grow 3 or 4 different strains on each grow cycle or stick to one? thinking about both production ease, amount of product at the end, and tolerance build up
Smell is an issue because of ventilation problems that can't be easily fixed. Previous grow of AK-48, the smell was no problem, but I did have problems with Nirvana's Aurora Indica (had to cut these ladies early because of the smell).
Ideas and advice appreciated. Also no access to clones or other growers - don't tell anyone has its drawbacks. But safety is always 1st!

Best bit of advice I can give is to get a carbon filter.

I always do several strains and it can be a pain in the ass cos you need to mix different nute ratios, keeping the canopy even requires a bit of work and you'll inevitably have plants that take longer than the rest sat on their own in the grow room if you don't run perpetual.

All the hassle is worth it for the variety of tastes and highs though.

You'd be a fool to grow without a carbon scrubber. They reduce odor to pretty much zero.

I turned mine off about 10 minutes ago just to see how fast and how much my garden would smell, and it already is stinking up the room and I only have 5 plants in the closet.

Well im a damn fool then LOL. I figure i smoke so much kush anyway the whole house is gonna smell no matter what. I personally think only when you trim the strong oils start stinking it up. A basket of potpourri at your front door is all you really need unless you are in an apartment.

Potpouri?! No offence but that's really bad advice, not everyone lives in SoCal.

I've come home to power cuts and been able to smell my grow before I get to the front gate potpourri just wouldn't cut it.

me myself .i like to grow different strains to find the right combo for my body chemistry.
not all people react to the same meds the same.like i love me a good sativa right now i have 3 kalimist right now and are waiting for rez c99/Apollo.i love c99 but my brother can not smoke a strong sativa it freaks him out.but i think Apollo 11 would work for him a sativa with out the speedy edge to it. i say grow as many as you can you never know what you are missing .

LOL i was just saying what i do you all can take it how you want. I live in the land where everyone smokes weed. You would be surprised how many times you smell weed in a day here just driving down the street with your window open. All i was saying is that the weed i smoke smells like kushy flowers which resembles some potpourris. Im sorry if the weed you guys smoke just smells like smoke and you cant mask it with something that smells similar. What you guys growing weed that smells like fruits? Well there are super strong potpourri blends that are sold that will smell exactly like any fruit you want. Why kill all smells if you can easily mask it or complement it? You all swear there is only one brand and scent and strength of potpourri. Dont hate on an idea if you havent thought it through first.

when you grow weed and are around it all day you get use to it.that's why i ask my brother when he comes over does he smell weed.and he says no.but i have a can 33 combo .but when it gets used up and ready for a change i can smell it .you will be surprised of what you can not smell when you grow.that would be my #1 concern
ther have been more bust on people from the smell of weed then any thing else.
the guy who wants to put Potpourri out is asking for trouble . just my .02 cents

I guess i was trying to say is that when i am smoking weed which is all day that smells worse then a growroom that is sealed off.

Thanks for all the input, guess i should have said that I do have a carbon scrubber. My problem is access to outside ventilation. The scrubber worked fine for the bag seed I have grown and the AK-48, just not the AI - it was just too much - with the crappy ventilation I have. I hope to be able to do something about being able to vent my scrubbed air outside, but due to other concerns, I can't even think about that for several months. Hopefully I can fix the problem before grow 4 (thats why I am trying to get advice now).

Now I am thinking that different strains will be best for me. With so few plants, I should be able to control different strains with different growth patterns (I hope). But if not, I have both a 400 and 600 HPS, so I can seperate them if I need to. I have plenty of space, so thats not a problem. I also have a small cab with several cfl's I use for seeding and to add some blue to the HPS.

Next question several packs of lower cost genetics - or get a seed mix of better genetics. I really hate the chance of losing beans in shipment, and more so if I have several hundred $ tied up in them. Advice here appreciated as well. BTW mostly smoke to help with back pain/spasms and to relax/rest, only rarely do I get the oppurtunity for a day time buzz.

Ill make it easy on ya all. How many of you smoke weed in your house? How many smoke weed near your front door in lets say the living room? How many of you smoke weed in any room with a window where smoke can leak out? How many of you smoke weed in your grow room only? How many of you have a carbon filter next to your computer to eat up the scent from the bowl you are toking right now?

whyme2, I guess I'm not understanding how "crappy ventilation" relates to your "smell problem." I grow in a cab with no outside ventilation at all, just an inline fan at the top the cab pulling passive air from the bottom and into a carbon filter above it. No outside air is introduced nor inside air expelled.

If your growing in an open room that cannot be sealed off into a closed system, I still can't figure out ventilation can completely solve your odor problem. To be short, properly scrubbed air doesn't need to be exhausted.

What am I missing?

After reading your post - I don't think its what you are missing - am now thinking its what am I missing. Off to start re-examining everything. However, smell issues are honestly not what I was asking about to start with. It was only one part of the question. I am really more concerened with the other questions, dealing with the strains and genetics.

I dont leave the house i smoke weed here all day long. I blow glass at my house and smoke weed every break. All i was saying is that it worked for me man. Dont take it personal. Do you also have twenty five huge marijuana plants in your backyard in a greenhouse and around the greenhouse? For me i cant put a carbon scrubber outside. It would be too loud so instead of killing all the smells i have to do the next best thing which is mask the scent. There is more then one way to control odor. You can kill it completely with a scrubber which i would recommend if you are growing in an apartment or a spot where odor will be a major issue. I never said dont get a scrubber medical shed. How am i supposed to cover the scent of this





Any info would be appreciated cause i cant carbon scrub that smell out.
