after starting in soil and then going to hydro, then aero, then hydro again, then soil again, then soiless mixes, ive decided to try coco

has anyone done a sog with coco in 5" pots handwatering?

how often does the watering need to occur? in a well ventilated area, im trying to keep it at 1.5 to 2 days, but 2 to 3 days would be great (less to worry about on small trips)

thanks for the help

I've flowered in 4" and 5" square pots, but only as a half-assed side project that I never really paid attention to. Sometimes I'd forget to water for days and come back to a completely dry pot of coco and some slightly wilting flowering plants. Watered back up, and back in business. Made a successful harvest, but not a great one ... considering the lack of attention and care they received under maybe about 100w of CFLs in an otherwise unused closet, alongside my 600w HID grow. Definitely not recommended, but just sharing some personal experiences.

Now with that said, the answer is obviously dependent on the size of your plants, your environment (temperatures, RH, how much fan action you have on them, and so on) so your mileage will obviously vary. I would recommend you build a simple auto-watering system. If E/F with pumps isn't up your alley, perhaps a gravity-fed top-drip system using a sprinkler timer. (Thanks to stoned_teacher for the idea!) This will not only make your day-to-day life easier, but also allow you to take off for a short period of time w/o much stress.

Even with fairly small plants, as a general rule of thumb I would recommend watering at least once a day (if not more, later in flower). It's possible in most cases, but not recommended, to let the medium become completely dry.

In other words, YMMV.

im starting to think i may want to mix it 50/50 with peat and then add some perlite and/or vermiculite

If you've done hydro you may already have 3/4 of the stuff that youd need to set up some sort of automated watering/dripper system.......

I hand watered for a grow and had to go automated after that......now that I have it automated I don't see myself going to any other medium...
