cloning problem...mold has been spotted

hi again,

long story short, i never had a problem with mold on any of my clones. as of late, i notice mold on the top of the root plug and at the very bottom of the stem, where its inserted into the root plug. mold has not affected all of them, but i need to nip this.

whats causing the mold? i mean, i know mold can be caused by moisture, but this has NEVER occurred prior. i even changed the location of the dome but same shit. i change the dome and keep the plug moist as i always have in the past.

thanks

One of many reasons I don't use domes anymore. Keep cuttings short and leaves trimmed and you wont need a dome. The one time I had a mold problem it engulfed the entire garden. Scrapped all plants and started over and the mold engulfed them too. Again I scrapped the plants. Additionally I disassembled the equipment and washed it and the cab in a 5% bleach solution (1 part bleach to 19 parts water) and rinsed thoroughly. No more mold :)

A good cleaning normally solves mold problems, unless it's a humidity issue, which in that case, I'm with FreezerBoy and say get rid of the dome.

I'm not a big fan of domes either unless low humidity is an issue. Perlite cloning and or alot of other types of cloning don't usually need them. I also like neem oil as part of my growing regimen as well.

I've been using a simple clear plastic container with a top (Sort of like a cubby from grade school, if you will), and not once have I had problems with mold. I would second Freezerboy on the bleach, you should definitely clean your cloning area (and your grow area in general actually) with regularity. Also, using clonex might help as it contains a few fungicides, and it sounds like you are having damping off problems, this may also help prevent that. Best of luck.

[edit] - I forgot to mention this part - make sure you open up the dome and clear out and refresh the air twice or more times daily. Don't leave it sealed up for days at a time, that WILL cause problems.
