Why use mogul bases and not regular medium bases? Are there even any 42w CFL's that use a mogul base?

Ok..someone fill me in..whats the differnce between mogul bases and meduim bases??Which one will fit a standard CFL??Also,do they sell them in Home Depot, just the socket and cord??What section do I look in?

Mogul has a wider diameter. Standard CFLs use Medium base. The same as in your standard houselamp.
If you still want Mogul, try your local industrial lighting supply. The type that outfits builders and contractors. Many are open to the public.

Just ask where you can find light sockets, depending on what style you want they're like $1-$5

just picked some up at casa de pot they are 2.09 they are called outlet to sockets adapters, they are made by levitona. i had the sku but if you go on their(HD) website just type in light sockets ,no wiring just plug and play and if you add a y socket outlet adapter you get 2 bulbs to a outlet then plug it into a multi strip and booyaa instant set up .I'm building a mom clone area using these i got everything including bulbs for just under 25bux

***Light Cleats***

***Light Cleats***

What you want is called a "Light Cleat"
Below I have shown you 3 kinds that are at Home Cheapo/Lowes/Ace and any other Hardware store

The Large ones in the Blue Box cost the most and must be wired from the back thru a hole in yur' Cab/Box

The other 2 are screw on light cleats they are wired from the front and are VERY EZ to wire up....
when you screw them on keep the silver screw on top and the brass one on bottom...
Then run a wire to each from a Ext cord(1 dollar at the dollar store) then cord has a ribbed and a smooth wire...run the smooth wire to the Brass screw and the ribbed one to the silver one.
You can "Daisy Chain" as many as you like....I run 12-42 Watt CFL's on 1 cord

Some Cleats screwed on before wiring

Some wired up and runnin

Green Grow........ Ya' "Green Horn"

That is the UL (Underwriters Laboratory) approved method for installation of a "Light Cleat" and it passes "Code" in every city, it would look just like that done by a "Sparky".... :puppydoge

Can you explain how to wire them without exposed wires?

Do you realize that there are "Exposed Wires" like that behind every light switch ,socket and outlet in EVERY home in the USA/Canada :jawdrop:
it's true it's part of Electricity in the modern world.
If this thought bothers you ,you better move to a tent soon.... :Bolt:

it's an acceptable wiring practice when mounted "at least 8 feet above the floor", according to the electrical code that i checked. in other words, they are to be used where they can not easily be accidentally touched. yes there are "exposed" wires" BEHIND every light, as you said. the key word being "behind". there are no exposed wires in my dwelling. i have pointed out an unsafe practice to anyone who happens to read this thread. there is no more that i can add . happy, safe growing.

Seems like there should be an easy fix to this problem.....just need a "cap" that would be placed over the exposed wires to prevent any human contact being made.

I can't believe that the company who manufactures these sockets wouldn't also manufacture a simple cap that would prevent any accidents happening from the use of these sockets, and avoiding potential lawsuits.

Is anyone aware of a "cap" type product that is available?
