Cococoir and perlite for outdoors?

I was wondering if it's a good idea to use coco coir mixed with perlite outdoors in a climate that is usually dry and can get well over 100*F? If I do decide to try it do you think I should water often? Thanks.

i have a few in a heavy coco soil mix an perlite. i water every day. i can miss 1 day occasionally, but they need it every day to grow rapidly

Thanks for the response. I will water them everyday then. I was thinking about planting a clone in a 1 gallon pot, do you think this will be big enough or should I go with a 2 gallon pot? The clone is still vegging and I've got till early August to throw it outside for the season. It'll be my first time growing outdoors :D

Another question: Should I mix in mulch? Because it gets really dry and hot in my climate and I was wondering if it would be a good or bad idea. Thanks

If the plants are in ground, i would avoid the use of either product as they will allow to much air into the soil and dry it out quickly. Generally, natural soil will crust over on the surface to some extent, preventing the rapid release of moisture. Mixing in too much of either product will have you watering constantly, which leads to leaching, which leads to the need for more ferts, which lead to the buildup of salts...........

silverback: thanks man, I was also thinking about this. I'm probably going to give it some fresh organic soil mixed with 20% organic mulch to contain the water. Thanks again.
