I wonder if this was a data miner, not even trying to make a profit. I used to work for a Photo/Video supply company and we paid a lot of money for specific mailing lists. You know everyone who buys a tripod is interested in cameras and camera accessories.

Let us know if you start getting photography catalogs in the mail.

It came directly from China.

I didn't check to see how much the postage was (using currency conversion online), but it was just a small manila bubblepack with the tripod folded in a thin plastic bag. But you know how those places in China work... super-low manufacturing & operating costs, and very small margins of profit... making money through huge volumes.

I got one very similar from the local £shop so I guess there's a profit in selling them at that price. Handy little tool, makes a BIG difference to the quality of the pics.
