Any fellow fly fishermen?

Like the majority of people who view this forum, I've lurked for years without ever participating. So kinda odd for a first post, but wondering if there's any fly fishermen/fly tiers around here? I used to be a saltwater devotee, but now enjoy fishing the peaceful midwestern streams in some of our beautiful forests. Nothing more relaxing after a week in the city than puffing some diesel (my favorite herbal fishing enhancer) on a clear, secluded stream and seeing a fat trout attack your fly. Also about to get rid of much of my fly tying gear and couple rods if anyone needs anything on the free/cheap.

Thanks to everyone who makes worthwhile contributions to this forum on a daily basis.

Yo Chi,
I also live for a good fish..Though i have flyfished since I was 10, I use mostly conventional tackle for the fishing I do nowadays where I am. I'm looking to toss some flies for pike back in the midwest later this summer, but stick to spinning gear for the steelies out here.
All this said, I'm not too picky what tackle I'm using(or really if the fish are biting), as long as the scenery is right and I get some time to myself or with my friends. Hope all is well back in the Chi, Go Cubs.

I hear ya on the fishing, BUT.............sox are gonna hand out a good :spank: again today. haha gotta lot of cub fan buddies, but on the not infrequent occassions I catch one of the drunk, obnoxious cubby fans pissing next to my friend's condo it's never a pretty sight.

So anybody catching anything? Trico's have been coming off in the mornings like clockwork here and the sulphurs in the evening are bringing the big guys to the surface right at dark. Throw in some sporadic drake hatches and it's been a dry fly fishers dream this summer.

Flyfishing is very fun espicially by yourself with some good bud on a nice scenic stream or river. I've met some pretty cool people that were doing he same thing I was a couple times. I just have this cheap rod that works fine and a box full of lures to choose from.

I will be camping for a week this summer on a lake to myself (me, wife, kids and some friends) where it takes about 30 minutes to catch half a dozen mixed rainbows and speckleds.

Lol, just seeing if you were northeast or northwest. Brookies are native to the east, dolly varden is their equivalent in the west pretty much.

i dont know it all about fish because i ignore what i dont like. (but i know more about fish than anyone i personally know)

...and i dont generally like trout.

Nah, it was a common misconception for a long while that dolly varden were a subspecies of Mackinaw (lake trout) but now they are seen as more towards the brookie side of the char family. I'm sure it'll change again in another ten years, lol.

I dont know how I overlooked this thread. I love fly fishing!

Where I live we do alot of fly fishing on the inshore shallows & flats for Tarpon, Snook, Speckled Trout, and Big Bull Red's. A couple of years ago we got bored and started fly fishing deep water which is a totally different animal but, one hell of an exciting & memorable adrenaline pumping experience! Off-shore we catch Sailfish, Tuna, Kingfish, Cobia, Bonitio, Mahi, Jacks, and the occasional Shark.

We go into deep water during the fall tuna run & into the spring for Mahi Dolphin. The Tuna school-up where the shrimp boats clean thier catch early in the morning. We also catch live bait and use it to get the fish excited and feeding near the surface, then we just cast into the school of monsters and hold on for fight that will give any fly tackle a run for it's money.

Life is fishing , golfing, and getting high, everything eles is just details.......

K+ to all the fly fishing enthusiast
