Wanted to see what you all consider the ultimate in odor control. Seems that no matter what setup iv tried it doesn't work as well as i would want it to. Iv used two 4ft scrubbers with 6inch vortex fans. I tried to seal the room the best i could been 10 plants in 5 gallon buckets and still cant keep the house under control.

I no there is a little science to it like do you all use timers, when do they come on for how long. Are vaportek, negative ion gen worth the money? I had a friend in the past who had a big grow and i couldn't ever really smell anything but he moved away and had the best setup iv ever seen.

I did do a search and not much came up so i thought i would a new thread. Sorry but im sure this topic has been talked about alot.

Theres a post on here somewhere for a bucket with ONA in it a little fan.Thats what I use.It works on the molectical(dont know how to spell) level. It doesnt mask the odor it changes it. you can be in the room and only smell laundry soap faintly. They sell a block to crack the jar in a closet of drying buds close the door and never smell it.I have mine on a timer it runs 30min on 30 min off

I prefer to mask the odor of cannabis with my own DIY fan...LOL

On a serious note...
I've never put my carbon filter on a timer. It runs 24/7 non stop!

I tried leaving it on 24/7 but it eats up the charcol fast real fast. Each scrubber and fans cleans a certain sq in a certain amount of time so leaving it on 24/7 is pointless imo.

There has been only one grow house iv been to where i walk in and smell nothing. The door to that room was like a vacum when you went to shut it. I know the ideal setup is to have a very well sealed room and the scrubber come every hr for like 20min and exhaust it out the house.

Just trying to see if anyone has a setup where you smell nothing and how they did it. Or using other products and what they found to be the best options.

This is where your mixed up. The scrubber that you have exhausting your room should be taking care of alot of that smell but what you ALSO need for absolute odor control is another carbon filter and fan that constantly recirculates the stinky air in the room. It stays on 24/7. Your plants are constantly making odor so you need a fan that is ALWAYS scrubbing the stinky air. This is the only foolproof way that I've found to keep stink levels down.

Digital im not saying my room is sealed as well as it could be just really hard cause it a utility space with water heater, electrical, so there are a few doors and such. I just need to rethink everything i guess and maybe get some bigger scrubbers. Digi can you smell anything when you walk in your place?

Ash that room is sick bro must have taken a bit of time to get it setup. Do you run your fan scrubber 24/7 also i see no exhaust so im assuming just cleans the room?

no you cant, but my room also has that suction thing u mentioned earlier... i have a 312 cfm S&P pushing clean air through my 4 hoods, i also have a portable a/c that spits some smell into my attic, and very rarely i can smell it, faintly, on the side of my house, that will be fixed when i get my 24kbtu window a/c.

i have 2 roomates who dont know i have a MJ growing so that must say somthing about the smell...

i didnt pay attention to who mentioned the c-filter on a 24/7 plug, i used to do that, but in a sealed room u dont need to, i burnt out a filter in my last sealed room and when i turned it off, guess who, still no smell, just wasted a 150$ can33

no exhaust, the scrubber is just there to help in the case of any leaks, it is on 24-7 but on a med speed just extra insurance n it was cheap none the less :joint:

ureapwhatusow

its dependant on strain too

i have a 6" fan and scrubber for my cool tubes a 8" fan and scrubber for the sealed room and ozone generators out fo the room

this doesnt kill the smell but keeps it from leaving the house

A working carbon scrubber will exhaust 0 smell period. Those that claim it only gets some of the smell have a leak in there inlet somewhere. Of course you need the correct amount of CFM or higher, and negative pressure in the room. Also get a Can 66 or Can 33, the cheap do it your self ones are not nearly as good.

wouldn't those cooltubes benefit from an exhaust system too ?

This has been my experience too. I have a big ass (probably 30+" tall and 18-20" in dia) 'carbonaire' no-name from plantlighting hydroponics.com that blows (via 6" 450 cfm vortex) directly outside. I had a SLIGHT scent when I first installed, but after I sealed the seams on the fan, and re-wrapped every 'connection' between filter/fan/exhaust hose, NOTHING. I stick my nose near the outlet almost daily, and I spend a BUNCH of time within 20-30' of the outlet. It runs 24/7 w/o problems (1200w, 18-25 plants any 1 time).

Does anyone know how long the carbon should last me? Will it fail gradually, or jst "GO"? It's been running 24/7 for about 3 months, and as of this post (barletta goes to check) NO smell.

(added pic for filter dimensions)

Not in a self-cooling sealed room. Blowing air through your tubes would just make them dirty and need cleaning way more often.

Fantastic setup asher1er. One of the nicest I have seen. Love that FLIR protection! Any reason you chose to go with cool tubes rather than standard reflectors?

all my standard reflectors where in use elsewhere, and there was no more funds to buy new ones so i used what i had laying around...if you look closely the tubes are 2 different lengths also :bashhead:

Sounds to me like the OP has a HUMIDITY issue. One of the only reasons a filter won't work besides humidity would be pulling/pushing air too fast thru the carbon. ALSO, do you have you system hooked up as this : Filter > Fan sucks thru filter (Negative pressure) > fan blows thru hoods (positive pressure after the fan). If you set up the system like this (if your filter and light cooling are supplied by one fan) then any leaks in the hoods or ducting after the filter will leak BACK INTO the room to be re-scrubbed.

I have a Can 66 and it's internal to my one 4' x 4' tent and STILL takes care of the whole grow room which contains a 6'W x 1.5'D x 5'H shelving I do all my vegging on and another 4' x 4' flower box. Said room is @ 10' x 12' square.

Well put. I can't state enough how important it is to have a very sealed tight inlet. This is what it should look like.

Feel around for air leaks and duct tape the crap out of it.

Two other important things are the filters CFM range. For instance my Can66 only works between 200-550 CFM, any faster or slower and smell will get out. Also the higher you can put it in the room makes a huge difference on Room Temperature. I noticed as much as 3 degree difference in moving up just a few feet.
