touring pros and cons

For the ppl that think the music industry is "the life".

I toured for a few yrs w/tiny to mega bands. It has its pro and cons.

what do u think is a pro? what would u consider a con?

ill start this w/one of each.

pro...sex

con...std

pro...free booze

con...becoming an alchy

so, what do u think?

pro... the gig

con... the hotels, hotels and more hotels or bedsits, bedsits n more bedsits

pro... the buzz when on stage

con... hard to get to sleep later that night, silence in a room after a loud setlist is deafning

I worked with bands on the road for most of my adult life (well from 16 years old)

Pro's
getting to do a job I loved
meeting a few minor stars (never did any major tours as such)
working with a Pink Floyd tribute band (I love the Floyd)
being able to get my kids into gig's (helps when you know staff at venues)
Free beer (and good weed, roadies always have the best weed)
being able to smoke (weed) at the gig's without having to worry about security nabbing you

Con's
shitty hours
Crap bands to work with (had a few of them)
humping gear about (speakers are bloody heavy)
traveling in the back of old beat up vans
getting blamed for the bad sound (back to crap bands)
getting pissed after gig's and waking up in said van cold and hung over

but hey I'd do it again in a heartbeat, I loved being on the road
now my son is playing with a few bands looks like I'll be back on the road again soon
Oh my last gig was in a prison, great audience they couldn't get up and walk out LOL

Pros:

-Lots of money...
-Drugs galore
-Girls, girls, girls...
-Seeing the world
-Different Food
-Meeting people
-Establishing friendships/connects
-Getting cool shirts in the lot
-Seeing great music
-Meeting rock stars (rare but true)
-Having the best time of your life, being truly free....
-Great drugs at shows

Cons:
-Getting busted by LEO is much easier when you're out of town / selling at a show...
-Spending lots of money
-Gas prices
-No time for hangovers, we gotta get back on the road for the next show...
-People sell shitty drugs sometimes...
-Getting jumped and robbed for your drugs / loot...
-Flaky people leave you in certain cities if hitchhiking
-Hitchhiking is quite strange with certain folk... who are driving and trippin'.... ?
-Not seeing loved ones
-Staying / sleeping / showering in unfamiliar territories
-Finding good food...
-Did I mention LEO?

The Pros outweighed the Cons for me...

lol...iv been down the road a few times. thanx for the replies.

pros...ppl iv meet...name dropping coming...lol. naw, just know iv meet them and smoked em out one by one. the biggest pro is the show to me.

the biggest con would be...??? asshat security gaurds...bad catering. sleeping in a 12 bed bus on the couch in the back lounge. having to stop the bus to shit. man iv stank up somewalmarts and rest areas.
oh i got roofied one time at a gig and robbed...lol. asa had everything. dumbasses got squat.

it is teddy, it is.

best tour imho is a huge shed tour and ur w/the openers. this means last to set up, 1st off stage. this leaves tons of down time to enjoy the perks of the bigger tour.

i luved it. now i could care less...lol.

im a gardener now. and they come to me lol...was a gardener then to. its how i got where i am...luv my mj.
