i use those same bags ,,3 or 5 will be fine ,, 3 gallons have about a 8-10 in diameter and the 5 gallons are a little bigger around 12 in ..... both fit very close together.. snug ...with no wasted space like pots tend to have ... i do reuse them if you are careful... but they are cheap to replace as well ...some duct tape does wonders as patches too

I'm just wondering if the difference between 3 and 5 gallons will be dramatic as far as the size of the plants go. I mean that cuts the amount of soil I need in half since I don't plan on going with shitty potting soil and what not 25 dollars a bag dosn't seem like much until you realize your spending over $250 on soil alone..

I have been using 3 gallon bags for the last couple years,

clones go from diy bubble cloner into 3 gallon bags. I have found 5 gallon bags too big for the size of my plants and the ones I had toppled over, never had that problem with 3 gallon bags.

when researching bags, I came to the conclusion that 3 gallon bags are the sweet spot for what I grow and how I grow it. xxxmaster kush and a blue strain vegged 2-3 weeks then flower for 6.23 weeks approx. :muahaha:

5 gallon bags did not increase my yield, 1 gallon bags decreased ield, and as expected, stunted growth, rootbound, I overwatered (doh) and 1/2 the size of the others in the 3 gallon bags.

Ive been using 2 gallon grow bags and am getting 2-3 foot tall plants in it and they dont even get rootbound in them. I veg for around 6 weeks and then flower for 8-9. So I would think the 3 gallons would be great. Roots dont grow that much in flower either.

Good to know, I was using these big white square buckets from the coffee roaster I work for, a lil too cumbersome though.

alright I guess I'm going to have to go with 3 gallons since it will almost cut my soil costs in half and will gimme a little more space to work with I really hope this is all true because I am not willing compromise size and quality

hum decreased yield in 1 gal bags naw

i love flowering in them thats GDP above choped early @53 days 12/12

heres some of the next run

above pic right to left 2 sugar shack, 4 GDP from clone

pic above canopy back row same as above front row, right to left 2 decapation {bubba x white mustang} 2 memoryloss strawd pheno {urkel x strawberry desiel} total 10 plants in 1st half of flower run. all plant above are from clone rooted in DYI bubbler 1st container is 3x3x3 inch square flower flat. 2nd container is 2 liter mtn dew bottels 3rd and normally finial is 1 gal bags instead of plants fresh rooted clone in large pot. i build up the rootmass just before i flower i take desired cuts throw em in the bubbler, while the current doners are in flower my cuts root and veg very nice under CFL lighting. by time 50-60 days have past i have nice healthy not root bound plants that go on to flower themselves after they have doned some cuts i can average transplanting every 10-14 days after clones are planted. works great i'm never pressed for time on the next run being ready currently i'm workn back into harvesting every 2 wks. i'll have another 12 plants ready in another wk for flower yepper never under estimate the power of 1 gal grow bags lol :rasta: .

oh yea i use less soil in the long run this way, i can from fresh rooted clone to flower container take 25 plants through 2 bags of fox farm ocean forrest soil nothing added. no perlite nothing

6 weeks of veg

and these are at 5 weeks of flower

with the smaller bags I found that they dry out a little quicker which is nice to allow air to get into the roots alot more often. The bigger bags stay wet for 5 days for me suffocating the roots of air for that time. Just gotta water a little more often with smaller bags. I water every 2-3 days with 2 gallons.

Maj, looks like you got your ish down pat!! Considering using the 3gal bags but if the 1gals to the trick, then why waste more dirt/space, right?.... So a couple questions for you........

-How long do you veg for?

-How long before you flower do you transplant into the 1gal bags?

-Do you turn your bags inside out to put the black on the outside, or you just use black bags?

-How often do you have to water your plants in the 1gal bags in veg/flower?

TIA if you could answer these ?s(feels more like an interrogation:)

hello enigmatik

-How long do you veg for? on average 4-5 wks from fresh rooted clone under compact fluros looks funny saves money bulbs

-How long before you flower do you transplant into the 1gal bags? i like min 10 days but have run 5 day veg then flower

Do you turn your bags inside out to put the black on the outside, or you just use black bags? no my local hydro shop had solid black bags when i bought them :).

How often do you have to water your plants in the 1gal bags in veg/flower? well after being transplanted i water right away then 3 days later on average they get watered again. from then on out every other day untill chop. i water untill drainage is achieved then move to next plant when all have drained good 15 mins i pick them up. this tells me approx wet weight, i'll lift them every day and notice the water level drop. when they feel 20-25% moist still i water them again. this averages out every other day, n/p on the questions i'm here to help and learn myself :rasta:

whats the yield you usually get with a 3 gallon. I plan on using 3 gallon grow bags for the next go. I know its pretty much strain dependent, but just an average i guess.

I know its a bit late, but thanks again maj for helping me out with the q's.

Last night I transplanted into 1 gal grow bags @17 days veg. Wanted to do a little experimenting, so I filled some w/all coco, some half coco/half sun gro mix #4, and some all sun gro mix #4(the original medium used since transplanted seedlings in RRs)

My grow cab measures 22" deep so I had to cram them in to fit 4 deep. So I'm a little concerned that taking them out(for watering) and cramming them back in every other day wont be good for the roots.

Am I just being over careful and they'll be fine, or should I work on a bigger cab/grow space?

i use the 2gal, iv found no diff in using them instead of the 3 gal, well except the cost of the extra soil. IMO my plants like a little more room than the 1gal offers...... but i guess that all depends on the size of the plant and strain, mine usually finish at around 3 feet tall. i know someone that flowers in 1/2 gal pots and swears buy it. just try them all and see what works best in your system, good luck on your grow
