it might hava a lot to do with whats selling due to e.g. preferred growing methods, breeding for controlled stretch, heavy yield, short flower time and a heavy stone. just like domestic beer, more the same than different, aimed for the middle of the road. im not saying it is like that, but in other markets you see that.

i think diesel is the ideal exemple of name oriented merchanizeing, its a market gimick that gets results! but ive got a garden of 6 unique veriety from a c99 cross, GDP, Maui and pure black domina, also a medocino strain that yealds 3-4 pounds in the right region outside. guess what thats called.. the farmer was honest in telling me he thought it had afghani backround but didnt want to be imaginative... the great unknown, TGU.

we like the veriety to it all and its very distinct differance from flower to flower, a sweet cherry or skittles from a maui, creamy grapes or lavander from GDP and sweet hash from the TGU..

i say to each their own but the cannabis family is just as wide streach just as selecively bread and cultivated as the tomato, maby the same to the mildly ignorant but when you find thoes few that stand out, that are more resistant to powdery mildue or others certen bugs.. we start to see blatant differances that start to determin wich strains are best for our microclimats. i know ive droped 3 strains that were mildue magnets indoors now i get very little, and i very much enjoy the veriety of flavors it never gets old.

Well I'll say that most people want a fast growing strain. Therefor you only have a few that grow really fast with nice yields. From what I can tell the new age smokers really only look for one thing: how strong is it. So comes the over lap. And yes the Bagseed that now must have the name that I have giving it. Same strain, no cross, new name. Here comes the hype.

Am not going to comment as to most of the statements in this thread...

Just a couple of thoughts...

There are professional tasters who can distinguish subtleties and nuances which distinguish two wines, or two vodkas, or two cheeses, or two beers... which the majority of the populace would swear taste exactly alike.

I select every breeding mother and father I use because of some distinctive quality which separates it from the pack, as I assume every breeder who cares about the plant does. Sure, large profit oriented dutch seed houses which have been trading and inbreeding and crossbreeding the same stock for 30 years are going to put out alot of "been there and done that" seed lines. By the same token, smaller breeders (who all most likely started breeding for themselves, and later feel compelled to share something they think highly of) often put out unique seed lines which contain some real gems.

I had a Strawberry Diesel once, and 90% of the people who hit it would immediately look intently at the joint (as though it were going to look than other joints) and proclaim "wow! what is THAT?"... Don't think that would happen if it tasted like every other joint they'd had that day(including others of mine)...

som names r outrageous all these kush types r gettin crazy but a name is a insight to the plants history for the most part.terpenes in the thc make up taste n smell the growing method, environment ,n nutrients all effect taste n flavor n high .smell from a live plant to a dried n cured r all diff. inhale n exhale also hav a diff taste.ive tasted more flavors of fruits in strains them the average person eats of diff fruit.ive tasted bud that had indescribeable flavs.if u believe all pot taste the same u need to look further.

when i react to a puff like that, then i will know; until then, either my taste buds are badly messed up, or there is mass hysteria going on (relax ... i suspect it is the former). so far, it all tastes like cannabis to me, but i will keep looking.
