I am currently doing a rubbermaid grow, still learning the beauty of growing but i have been lurking here for awhile and im getting ready to upgrade to a dresser for my new grow so i have a few questions

1. My new grow space is a dresser and it measures 35w 40h and 15 1/2 depth, im thinking about continuing using cfls just more cost effective right now but i have been poking my head around and looking at 150hps for that size space, what would be the better choice?

2.How many plants should i be looking at putting in a space that size if im using a sog or would my yield be better with a plant or 2?

3. And how do you get a perpetual grow in motion. where you have a steady supply of fine medicine

at wits end....

any help would be much apperciated.

Hi burna, I am in your exact situation just about 6 months ahead, I just built a CFL dresser, its awesome.

I just joined this site so I cant post pics, but I have a thread on grasscity, under the same name if you want to check it out. Hope nobody crawls down my throat for directing someone towards GC...

If you are able to keep your ambient temps low(low 70's) you could get an HPS and I would recommend it, high tech grow supply on has good deals on a 150w hps. I saw a special they had where you could have it shipped for $90.

If you are looking for a perpetual system, it will take some work but it can be done. You'll need a mother/clone box, in addition to your dresser flower box. You can use something very small for the mombox, and like 2-4 23w cfl's, the tiny ones.

Read Dr. Bud Greengenes thread in the micro grow section "Compact SOG w/CFL's" for info on a perpetual system. Its chock full of GOLD.

I'll post pix of my setup once I'm able.

Hope this helps dude! stay safe above all!

I just made the switch from a 150 HPS to a 250 CMH. Turned my cab into an Easy Bake oven. My fault all the way. With the 150 I used a single 4" dia. intake, same as the exhaust. Moving to 2X intakes, by cutting a second 4" intake, dropped temps back down into the 70s with a 76 CFM axial fan.

Note the heat increase was NOT CMH related but, because I virtually doubled my wattage. CMH will run cooler than HPS in equal wattages.

CMH is available at 39 to 400 watts, including a 150. 250 & 400 use magnetic HPS ballasts. 150 and under use Pulse Start metal halide ballasts. Check the ANSI code for your bulb of choice and it will list the proper ballast(s) An M number is Metal Halide. An S number is High Pressure Sodium

I only added a second intake, still one fan, one exhaust. (actually there was the whole inline fiasco but that doesn't pertain)

Physically, I'm an Ichabod Crane type. It's not as though I have Popeye arms but, I went from comparing my colas to my thumb to comparing them to my forearm. HOWEVER I can't pin it all on CMH. I nearly doubled my wattage and, with my first DWC, increased root mass nearly 10 fold. Root porn good.

damn thats sounds really impressive amazing what the right amount of light will do to your yield, im only considering still using cfls for security issues until i get my dresser built out but just reading all the info around might just keep the cfl grow going and the new cmh going just to see what the diffrence is
