needs new flaired copper fittings +plumbing. wires were cut. im sure it was one of thoes "quick tear it down" moments.
so im buying the wallhanging part with the remote and the ouside condensor...this thing is big! but i guess i need a pro to install it....
uses r401 i think or 408...
only 400$... dude says he cooled 9k with it.

If you do get a safe address wouldn't want someone who just had to tear down knowing where I was...

thanks man, i thought of that, i would be picking it up in my car, erm truck, or somthing big enough! i got a ballast off ebay from him, haha i removed my lic. plates b4 i showed up...

it looks like it was fairly new paint is nice(not that it matters) but its not rusted or banged, the inside unit dosent look scratched and the coils looked clean(filter was left on) i was worried about the control wires and not having a manual. there was a cable im sure it goes to the inside unit right?

the price is right on the split unit
yea it sounds good. the unit looks good, but im hoping someone with experiance in minis can tell me if im missing critical parts/what to look for...
if its worth it, dont i have to have someone come install this thing? or atleast fill it up...

if i install it can the a/c guy just plug the tank in and fill without having to inspect the room side unit?

its just a couple of copper lines, flair the ends. wouldnt be more then 10-15 ft away.

Once plumbed up, it will need vacuum drawn for 30 minutes or more to draw out any moisture. You might need to add some oil that may have been lost when the lines were cut. A service guy would need to check that the inside was working properly. Look for where the ports are. Probably outside with the compressor. But, part of his job is making sure it works properly when the various buttons are pushed.

Good vacuum pumps are $200-300
Gauges are $100-150
R gas...you probably need a license to get that special stuff. But you could probably tell a guy you would pay price(150%) for a tank of it.

Google probably has the manual once you get the model number.

There is an AC guy on these forums.

call around but most pros want $400-500 just to come out and fill a unit.

you can buy r410 freon without a liscense..koolit.net

if doing the lines yourself the most important step is putting oil on that flair fitting. its the only gasket there is. and dont kink the lines.

all the work can be done from outside it is important to screen the ac company first though 1 reason is for price gouging at this time of year and another is to ask them if they can fill an installed unit from ouside. tell em you broke a line and lost the freon but repaired the line and need it recharged.
it can be done from outside as long as there are no leaks or any problems on the inside. they'll need to you to go in and turn the unit on though when its ready.

a good exscuse is to tell them that your mom or wife just had surgery that morning and is in the room asleep and recovering and ask if they can do all the work from outside.
it took a few bong rips to think of that one...

buying a new unit might be better in the end 1 reason is there is no way to check a used unit. and r410 units are touchy. if ran low on freon or if the lines were'nt vacumed it could ruin the compressor. and having it filled might cost more than the unit @ $400.

they are the cadillac of ac's once installed though. i can set any temperature I want and hold any humidity regardless of outside temps.. :rasta:

I wouldn't waste your money. It might be okay, but also there might be a lot wrong too that will cost big bucks to fix, not to mention getting a professional to hook it up. You won't be able to do it yourself and it really is a gamble. Sorry, I know it sounds like a good deal but just the fact it was used for a grow and the wires were cut seems a little scary to say the least. Obviously the guy didn't care too much for the unit so it makes me wonder if it was broken and he just cut the wires because it was easier that way. If it worked well he probably would have taken his time to remove it. I know it could have been a quick tear down, but an AC is not illigal so why would that have to be removed in such a rush?

Just a few thoughts to think about. I would hate to see you waste 400 bucks, and people will do pretty crappy things when it comes to money, especially on E-Bay.

He said he cooled a 9kw grow with 18k btu's?!!!! Either he was runnin 6kw max worth of lights, and included all fans, pumps, and the AC unit itself for that number, OR... He was an HVAC pro and had those 9kw worth of lighting ventilated uber good! Just what i would think.. i mean 9kw lighting @ 4,000 btu's per 1000 un-aircooled HID watts is 36,000 btu's or 3 tons. Even if they were cooled hoods, you can possibly AT THE ABSOLUTE MOST cut that formula in half making it 2,000 btu's per 1000 AIR-COOLED HID watts, which would equal 18k btu which is what he had. Im jus sayin the only way he cooled all of that lighting was if he had that shit air-cooled like crazy good, and i bet he still would of been fighting temps. :dueling:

from what ive herd the BTU rules isnt the same for minisplits, they usualy run a seer rateing of 13.5-13.9 whereas window boxed run 9.5 at best usualy

Yeah, or it was winter. Or it was up in Gnome, Alaska. Now if all those 9k of lamps had their own sealed vent-through then you could cut the heat load down to the difference between what the plants consume (chemically and transpiration) and wasted "light" that exits the glass.

The SuperSun 2s have a rubber seal on the glass.
