i'm on day 59 with ice cream. it calls for 60 days. i think it may need a few more days. i bought the infamous radio shack lense :headbange and all trichs are clear or a few slightly cloudy. i always thought u were supposed to wait till all amber but now i learned all amber is straight couchlock...
do i want 1/2 clear, 1/2 cloudy or some amber or what...? do they gradually go from clear to cloudy to amber or do they change pretty quick?thanks. :joint:

I'm a rookie, but ...

Doing my first grow for a long time of a few varieties. Looking good so far. Probably a couple more weeks before my first is ready, and the varieties vary in flower time ...

So, I just snip a small bud each week for plants I think are getting close, put it in water for all of 2 to 3 days (changing water daily but with just one little bud it probably matters little), dry overnight, and sample. A quick water cure of just a single bud. So far the smoke has been smooth, but clearly speedy so not ready. I'll look at trichs too of course. But water cure is great for quick samples. Take a snip every Wednesday, have a bit of smoke for the weekend.

And as other postings have said, most people harvest too early than too late ....

I would sample a small bud and go from there. I think it's subjective though. You might like your Ice Cream 60/40 (cloudy vs amber). Someone else may prefer to harvest with only very few amber trichs. Let us know how the sample was though.

I would let the plants flower longer if the trichs have no amber in them. The seed packet flowering times to be honest are just guesstimations. That is the average flower time for most phenos from those genetics. You might have a pheno that might need 70 days flowering. Look up the genetics that make up the ice cream and you can better understand your strain. I would wait for some amber before i chopped though.
