1200 vs. 600

I have a 3.5 x 3.5 flowering tent, basically a meter square. I have a 600 rigged up in there which will put out about 49 watts / square foot. I believe it would be possible to rig up a second 600 in there, but I'm wondering if that is too much light for that space? Perhaps I could add it in after a few weeks of flower? Would definitely like to hear some opinions on the matter. I have an 8000 BTU window unit and I can always add another vortex room fan thing to cool em down.

If you got enough ventilation to control your enviroments temps and humidity go for it. I do not think yyou can match the power of the sun.

Actually it comes pretty close. I believe the figure for full sunlight is equivalent to about 1300 watts per square meter. I was really wondering if it would produce lightburn or something like that, I'm pretty sure with all my ventilation in a small space that I can keep em cool.

Peace.

i personally wouldn't be tossing in another 600, but suit yourself. You're basically just asking people to think for you in this thread...and the 'full equivalent to sunlight' is not 1300 watts, does this mean if i get 30, 50w incandescent light bulbs I will have replicated the suns power? If you truly understood PAR, you would understand wattage has nothing to do with the suns power. 1200 watts in a 3.5x3.5 tent is a lot of waste imo, others may disagree, but I believe if you're using identical hps bulbs with the same spectrum, its an extreme waste.

Personally if I were you and wanted more efficiency, I'd throw in a 250-400 CMH for a little different light spectrum.

1200 is too much IMO. Just keep the 1 light nice and close without bleaching and you'll be happy.

Texas Kid uses 2x600w HPS in one of his tents.

Texas Kid said:
I run (2)600 watt HPS bulbs over a 3x3 ebb and flow table and not a 6' x 6' room so my canopy coverage and penetration is pretty extreme, 133watts per sq.ft. or better.....that's the ticket. I think in a 6x6 room I would shoot for like 2500-3000watts worth of lights and maybe a mover or two to get the full meal deal cookin

To me, there isn't a single hood out there that covers more than a 3x3 footprint effectively anyways, a 4x4 table requires (2) seperate hoods in my opinion to get the same coverage and penetration. I would probably run (2)1000 watters over a 4x4 table, a single 1000 watter per SilverStar hood.

The mixed spectrum using a 600w HPS and a 400w MH end to end doesn't work very well either, IMO, if you have a fixed position hood, you get defined break lines of growth in the canopy and it doesn't stay even at all..You can see where the 600 stops and the 400 starts, now if you spin that bitch your in business...

Yeah That's a good thread by texaskid. I believe I'll stick with the single 6 until I build a larger space later in the year. One thing I should make clear - I am not asking people to think FOR me, as I stated I said I would like OPINIONS on the matter. Second, I am WELL aware of what PAR is and the number is merely an overall equivalence, obviously spectrum isn't included as we all know that the HPS spectrum does NOT compare with actual sunlight. Mostly I was thinking of putting in the extra 6 in the last half of flowering but then I looked at it and it's a basic model with no detachable cords and a loud ass ballast. Would have to cut a hole in my wall to get it inside and I'm simply not going to maim my beautiful homemade tent lol. Thanks for the opinions everyone.

I have a homebox 4x4x7. I have 9 plants ready to go to flower next week. I have not had any issues with it.

if you can cool it do it. may want to consider CO2 also as with that much light your cutting your potential significantly without it.

I've decided I'm not going to add another 600 until I get my DR150 this fall. I have no way to get C02 or tanks plus carrying the latter into an apartment complex is fucking sketchy. I figure a 5 x 5 tent is a big enough area for a couple 'a sixers.
