Hygrozyme and H2O2

Who has had experience mixing the two together?

I am losing 20% of plants to root rot. I have some 35% H2O2 on the way.

Everybody seems to have different experiences using the stuff.

Any personal experiences would be helpful.

Also, the makers of Hydrotone do not recommend using bleach as a sterilizing method. What's the word out in the field on this one?

Down here in Houston, it's hot during the summer months, which makes growing expensive.

Hey Drama,

I know - this year's temps are totally insane! Record highs all over the US... nasty time for us DWC growers.

First off, Hygrozyme is not a product which will prevent root rot. Dont get me wrong, Hygro has it's place in the celestial bounty of additives, but not for root rot.... so dont hold your breath on it.

My personal recommendation - Pick up some Hydroguard OR some Beneficial bacterias (there are a few on the market, most in powder form).

Second - if you ARE runnin DWC, which is causing the root rot, check out the DIY in my sig for the water cooler chiller conversion. Chances are your water temps are just too high... this is a quick, simple, cheap way to cool those temps down.

Oh almost forgot... personally, I never use H2O2 - aka peroxide... if you get your water temps under control and add in a preventative such as hydroguard, you wont need it.

Hope this helps! Good luck bro!

hygro works well to break down any sludge in your system, like dead roots and what not. keeps your res pretty clean. although hygro says you can use h2o2 in small quantities, i wouldnt recomend using them together. i would grab a chiller to keep your water cool. a radiator on your exhaust fan might be a cheap alternative to a chiller.

ez clone recommended using bleach to clean their system - i would rather use that Bio Green product

I agree with the others here. Make sure those temps stay down.

I would also like to add that H2O2 will kill any beneficial bacteria that you have and if too much is added you will burn your roots.

Also, keep your PPM's in check. The less is more theroy can't said enough. Give your plants what they need and that's it. Brown algee will grow with too much salt in the rez.

Good luck.

Rather use H2O2 35% than Hygrozyme when you already have root rot, Hygrozyme and H202 would not work together, take the plants out and spray the root mass with H202 diluted pull out dead roots and clean the complete system, you won´t be able to kill completely the root rot but you can control it adding H2O2 every other day. I suggest throw away the system and take clones. When pumps, lines and reservior are infected no matter how you clean them you would always have a chance to get infected again.
