I think these are female preflowers but I'm a novice and would like some confirmation.
Assuming they are female, that would be two out of three plants. Third plant hasn't shown me anything I can identify just yet. But whatever happens, I'm happy with 2 out of 3.
Thanks everyone! I do hope the third is a girl. It might be the best one of the trio although they're all doing fine I think.
Strain is unknown bagseed. Based on the seeds I've saved over the past "who knows how long" it's likely mexican budget brand. Could be mid-grade from a long time ago though [shrug]. Any way to tell just by looking at them?
The one on the far right is the one of undetermined gender. I can (barely) see itty-bitty things I think are preflowers but they're hardly visible. Nothing about what I can see says male or female.
About the camera--it's a nice camera that I really like but it's nothing spectacular. Olympus Stylus 720SW.
Macro photography is tricky business. Plenty of megapixels helps a bit (7.1 in this case) so you can capture detail through cropping down a full sized image. A couple of mexapixels will generally get the job done though. But in my experience the difference maker is simply practicing using the macro mode that just about every camera has. It's ironic that the button for cameras' macro modes are almost universally labeled with a flower icon.
I use to take junk macro pics with my camera. But just doing it over and over until I figured out what works made all the difference. Strong lighting, paying attention to what spot the camera is focusing on, taking many shots from barely different angles/distances, and one of those miniature tripods (mostly only for when the lighting is less than good) are tips that help me capture what I'm trying to capture.
Yes, the first pic is a different plant than the second pic.
I'll keep watching them. I'd like to figure out what they are before I go 12/12. If only one is female I'd probably veg it for a bit longer to try and get the most out of it [shrug].
This is the one I can't identify as male or female.
I don't see any pistils nor do I see multiple pre-flowers grouped together. Actually, it's hard to find preflowers on this one. I found note sites that might have them but they're too small for me to identify as such. These are the largest I could find. I'm hoping this plant is just behind the others in development and pistils will pop free from this spot soon.
