Help me design a medical stealth grow for my mom

Basically I want to set up a small stealth unit for a steady medical supply (only about 1/2 ounce per month,) and enough for me to have some too.

The main concerns are cost and low size. If I could pull 2-3 oz's every 2 months that would be plenty. I'm thinking a 250W hps should be plenty..? (Cmh for veg?)

So I've got a few questions:

What would the cheapest stealth option be? I've looked at tons of micro grows and haven't really come to any conclusions on what's cheapest or best...

How little space could I accomplish that in?

I'm thinking about a budget of around ~$500

Thanks :D

I will be scouring the micro grows more to help me try and decide.

Just some stuff to think on before you start

They always say beginners should start with soil and, were it outside, I'd agree. However, when I look in the infirmary, most of the problems seem to be in soil and coco grows. I just did my first "official" DWC and it's hard to imagine anything simpler. Hang your roots over bubbling water and keep your hands off till harvest time.

My 250 CMH just delivered 4+ oz of Sativa in 22x29 sq inches. I smoked liberally along the way and water cured. Had I kept my hands off and jar cured, yeild may have gone as high as 8 oz. Had it been Indica, even higher. Hard to imagine Mom would need more light (or weed) than that.

I admit to being a CMH homer. That said, why switch bulbs? The sun doesn't change color, the plant's preference changes. CMH is more blue than MH AND more red than HPS. If you use MH for vegging, you're stealing blue light from the plant. If you use HPS for flower, you're stealing red light from the plant. And, just to confuse things further, there's a new purple CFL that has similar specs but may only be available in Europe right now.

Micros to check: NGBs of course; An all time classic. MicroRU's craftsmanship and design boggles the mind http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=64551

Hmm so I'm sold on the CMH, I might use an hps bulb for flower though.

Where did you get your cmh setup/what did it cost?

so hps ballast/cmh bulb: $200-$250?
4 inch vortex ($150,) a carbon filter ($150), maybe a cabinet or darkroom to put it in ($200?), circulation fan $15, rubbermaid $15, air pumps $50, $25-50 miscellaneous containers etc....

$800-900 easily already right?

ever thought about using a 150 hps or two and going perpetual. that way you always have meds. 150's are pretty cheap and give good results, I got mine for $17 on amazon. shouldnt be to hard to stay under $500 depending on your diy skills.

good luck
