Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH)

M

Microwido

You can pretty much thank this thread for my current grow. Look how many posts I have, I started with post #1 on page 5 of this thread.

Now I am 1 week away from harvesting over a 1lb from 800watts of CMH goodness.

Oh and I put the ballasts in the box they came in! (top left of this pic)

I was going to PM and keep this private but for others do not use boxes..or have ur ballast that close to mylar..

Micro.. I hate to say this but your a FIRE HAZARD.>>
THat mylar can go up just from the heat of the ballast..
i really gotta say im surprised those box's haven't gone up yet..
Micro you should mount your ballasts on a Metal plate on concrete board or thick plywood..them boxes will go up its just a mater of time.

NICE Trees though..

i responded.. ill update post #2.
no new word.. on 600-1,500 watt CMH..

CMH is not Money makers Yet.. (still new in the world of lighting at the MFR standpoiint)
and will loose money for the Manufactures.. as they will have to retool every mh and hps factory.. so untill the mh and hps factories pay for them selfs and make Profit (we dont know what amounts those are).. they wont PUSH 600+..
there is GSY with 600+ but there not even pushing.. (being asked i assume to not Push them) and im not a fan of the spd for us... its more commercial lighting.. (not commercial ops.. real commercial applications so im waiting on a new chem mix from them..)

you see.. cmh is the end of every lamp source any where.. Incandescent, CFL, Linear florescent, MH, HPS, specialty HPS and MH lamps. xenon everything..
and cmh can be fired by electrode (current style)
or RF induction IE electrodless with long life and High LPW

a 21 watt cmh (144LPW) in a car headlight is better than a 35 xenon (bmw's etc) from every apsect.. Life, cost, output, spd output (I have a hella E55 with a Philips 25 watt CMH and its Prety Dam cool.. )
current lighting pulls from car 110watts for halgen to 70 with xenon and will now be only 42 watts
saving 30watts @12V from Xenon and
saving 68watts @12V that saves a boat load..
with a life 10 Times longer (cmh 12,000 hours xenon 3,000 hours)
so total life your saving the car strain on power and the xenon lamps u dont need replacing..

in few years incandescent are gone (bad choice IMHPH we need that backup when digi fails its easier to get incan to light than electronic lamp LOL)

you can take a 25 watt cmh and put it any light out there now..
and if you need bigger you can go up to 150 in a small package..
a 25 watt cmh will replace 50 watt incan or 30 watt CFL..
the new cmh a 15 watt cmh will replace a 50 watt incan or 30 watt CFL..
(i have the math somewhere i just did it all)
the smallest cmh bulb is oh so dam small.. ill take a few pics and post them tonight..
there isnt any lighting unit that cant be retroed or converted to cmh.... and thats scary when cfl and mh and hps are so much more profitable..

CMH is a threat to lighting in general.. Thats why no biger ones pushed yet.

I would be very interested to see some pic's of small CMH bulbs. Sounds promising.

i cant find my GE cmhs (they got some small mr16 style 20 watters)
to many lamps to keep all organized but then i misplace the boxes..LOL
but here is the Philips 20 watt 3,000K BT5 bulb type
part number: CDM20/TM/830 init lumen 1625 mean 1050 ya its poor but its not the new 144LPW either wait for that puppy in this format..It seams brighter than the ratings..

pics compare with a few other lamps.. ill go over each one above the each pic..
this mini cmh is just a hair thicker than the thin side of a bic lighter, bit smaller than the big side.. and about 2/3rds the height.. ill take a pic..
the arc tube is bout same size as end of cigarette but not as round, squish one a lil and u got the 20 watt cmh arc tube.. LOL..

the ge ones i have go down to MR16 and are nice and ity bity.

this thing doesnt get hot at all for being 20 watt hid.. no way can i touch my 35 d2s xenon that thing is spilling heat like mh and hps do.. but not that cmh.. YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. my dam cat touched it with her nose.. i wish i had taken a picture..

H9 Car headlight, D2s Car headlight, Mini CMH, t6/g12 bulb (150w mh)

150 watt CMH (no shell), mini cmh, 50 watt (50 watt protected ed17p)

13 watt cfl, mini cmh, 40 watt cfl, (test subjects said min cmh was way brighter than 13 watt and just a hair dimer than that 42 power sucker cfl)

hey simba, what type of ballast or power source would you need to power those 25w CMH's in your headlights? Would they work good in 06-07 Honda S2K Projectors?

cali..
you need a 20 watt electronic Ballast for cmh (either Advance or VS)
and a power inverter.. (to go from 12 to 120v) no 12v 20 watt low freq ballasts.. (there are high freq but that no good)

s2k i forget do they come stock with HID or Halogen.. If hid allot easier.. If halogen then Not legally any way shape or form..

that was more of a efficiency statement../the auto cos// have dumped there money on xenon and wont switch just yet.. they think led is the thing i dont think led is for headlights.. Not yet..
if its got hid.. your going to kill your projector but its ok...
Glue the min cmh in the fixture (its to short to be rebased) (with some 832-tc)
(you can score projectors cheap..
(this would be concidererd a Serious MOD>> not just retroing HID but making sure you have the aiming just right.. if its off 1/10th of a mm your screwed...
(DOT is very sensitive to lighting mods, me to. you can easily blind oncoming traficwith xenon if not properly done IE them dam bulb drop in crapy things.. )

(my MB AMG e55 Bi-xenon Projector Headlight is a Flashlight now its no longer in a car but it could go back in one easily) i aslo wont ever own a MB..
i want a 2001 tdi jetta (50mpg@220+HP) or the new Jetta blue (50mpg)

the projector gave me what i wanted from a serious search/rescue light.. WIDE flood with a LONG Throw.. Unbelievable..beats My buddies Sure Fire Beast (mil spec Crazy flashlight $3K+ .. and they used same bulbs.. until i moded one my projectors to cmh.. and still blows his outa water..another great flashlight is a Hella Micro DE Headlight its like 2.5" diameter and about 3.5" long(smaller than pack cigs about)
and u get about a hours use out of a small 12v 6ah battery (pretty portable) using a 35 watt xenon put a lil bigger battery and u get 2 hours and up..
the 45 watt xenon and 20 watt cmh ballasts are aoubts 3.5x3.5x1.5"

can ya tell lighting is like a Drug to me.

Here's a few pics of a Day 13 grow. All dj short blueberry clones, a Lifesaver clone, and a Toxic Blue clone. Had them at 8" tall by the time they went into flower hut and that was only due to multiple prunings. I vegged them until they were 4 - 5" inches above screen then flipped them. I am hoping they stoop their stretch RIGHT NOW! They grew a couple inches since yesterday... This is my first scrog, using 400 CMH (3rd time around), drip feed recirc. I am using stuff called Inoculaid for beneficial bacteria and the stuff is insane. I double dare anyone tto try it for themselves! Do you guys see problems ahead with this thatch? Too thick? I hope I can prune only under the screen but I'm wondering how they'll do once the flowers fill in.
They are waiting for their watering so they look a lil thirsty here.

That technically isn't a scrog, its a net laying at the bottom of your plants. The purpose of scrog is to create a canopy of buds. I think it should have been placed a lot further up or you should have flipped to flower much earlier.

How big are your screen openings? Mine are 1" squares. ScROG would let you cover the same area with a single plant. Of course that would prevent multiple strains. Have you looked into Lollipopping? It's well suited for SOG which is what you're closer to at the moment.

"horizontal stability management" Great answer! Pretty plants, too.

WOW! Now that's a scrog! The screen you have is what I originally got but knew with what I had to work with (and was trying to accomplish) I needed a bigger spacing. The one I went with is about 2" to 3" inches wide.

I don't know what this week holds. I hope the stretch ends but the new moon starts tomorrow so.... :nono: HATE TO HAVE TO CUT ANY TOPS AT THIS POINT AND IT IS SO FULL IN THERE SUPERCROPPING MORE THAN A COUPLE WOULD BE A MESS. Sorry, missed the cap lock...

My girl laughed at me for supercropping. Topping just pissed her off and she grew even faster. Bending like a candy cane was the answer for me. As pics show, sativas remain highly flexible. Indicas may only allow you to bend over the very tip.

IMO, it's almost prohibitively large. It takes quite a commitment to make it through 1600 posts. Probably a lot to ask of someone but I sure wouldn't mind seeing a condensed version--a CMH FAQ if you will. Something a bit easier to digest for folks who haven't been following this from the very beginning.

Or maybe there is and I just haven't looked in the right place?
