I think California has significant gravitational pull for all gays and marijuana lovers in the world (I'm both, by the way). I could tell you about plenty of friends and acquaintances that pulled up stakes and moved to California, both straight and gay, the common denominator being that they were young, single, smart, liberal-minded and opposed to prohibition. I suspect this has been going on for decades now. After a while, critical mass builds up and you have a state where the people will no longer accept prohibition or for that matter homophobia.

California is cool in so many ways, that I'm seriously considering moving there myself, even if it costs me ten grand or so and even if I lose all my current circle of friends. You can make new friends, but you can't change the laws in a Bible Belt state, not with so many fundamentalists who watch nothing but FOX news and think it is 100% right all the time, everytime. They really think marijuana is an "evil drug" and gays are "sinful." Let alone the attitudes towards those who have a different opinion about religion (i.e. agnostic, atheist etc.) Forget about it, go west and be free(-r).

I completely disagree with the statement that somehow marijuana and gay marriage is related because it's not!! They are two separate issues. This is the very reason why cannabis is going to be harder than it needs to be to get legalized, everyone wants to add their own agenda to the marijuana legalization issue and the next thing I know I am not just the average Joe supporting the legalization of marijuana but is also perceived to support gay marriage, gun control, abortion rights and universal health care. Why is so hard for most people to understand that I can smoke a splif own a gun and be against welfare and also say leave the gays alone. Many many different types of people from different political views smoke marijuana but its the extremists that try and make the legalization of marijuana more than that single issue. This is how the my fathers generation practiced politics where its just not possible for someone to smoke weed and own a gun in their view. The days of the Vietnam era where everything is polarized and a line is drawn in the sand and you are either a cowboy or a hippie. God I hate that mentality, its the 50+ year old mentality that only hippies smoke weed and cowboys own a gun. Take for example our current crappy government that at one time practically said anyone who was against the Iraq war was a terrorist. Thats George Bush's generations understanding of the world its either you are a lefty or a righty. The day we stop making cannabis a platform for other issues is the day we will see some real substantial progress in getting cannabis legalized. I know when I hear about a cannabis legalization demonstration happening and I drive by and see people with painted faces beating on drums it makes me turn around and go back home and all of my friends say the same thing. When are we going to learn the very reason why cannabis has not been legalized on a federal level is because a lot of people who support the legalization of marijuana make it more political than it needs to be.

You should read Genesis chapters 18 and 19 regarding Sodom. God said He would not destroy it if He found 10 innocent people. The city was destroyed except for one family, who also provided shelter to two of God's angels. It's so strange how the old and the new are so directly opposed to one another, you know? I ain't gay but I do believe that the government has no right to say gays can't marry.

I really am thinking about moving out to California after college; much more liberal, thank God there's a place in the US like that. Plus it's a good place for entertainment stuff, acting and whatnot, what I want to do.

First let me say, that a majority of gays tend to be cooler about stuff like mj. They have faced persecution over personal behavior and know what it's like better than most. So rather than be judgmental and favor punishment, a gay person might be more inclined to live and let live.

Gays are also more likely to drink, smoke or do drugs. Just the fact of living in an urban environment, where everything is available, and going to bars / nightclubs more often, and the youthful promiscuity lends itself to experimenting with substances.

Why do gays live in an urban environment? Because they find it difficult to find another out gay man in smalltown USA, so they move. A lot move to California, but more probably just go to the biggest city near their home. Why do gays go to bars / nightclubs? Same reason, to find others like them. Why experiment with substances? One reason is that depression is a big problem in the gay community, especially younger people who have parents or even friends that have disowned them.

If you're in doubt about the connection, look at Holland. Tolerant of both gays and mj. Look at Spain. Ditto. Gays and mj users seem to form a natural alliance. I mean on the one hand you have taboo sex, on the other hand a taboo drug.

That said, you're also going to find anti-drug gays (I have), as well as anti-gay pot smokers (same). So it's not clearcut by any means.

I would refer you to the writings of Alvin Plantinga (for a start) if you don't mind working hard to understand the answer you seek. The existence of evil in a world made by an all-loving all-good all-powerful God has been debated for centuries. What is good for you may be evil for me, and I don't mean a lack of objective reality, or differences in tastes.
