Hooking up a can filter to lights and fan....

I am going to have two air cooled lights with a can fan and can filter. Everything is going to run from the filter, through the lights, then out the window. My question is, would it be better to put the can-fan by the window or attached to the can filter? Does the difference in pressure matter?

Put the fan closest to the exhaust end.

So you're saying to put it by the window, so it's pulling rather than pushing through the lights? Sorry, I'm a complete noob at ventilation :bashhead:

Yeah, it has a better efficiency at the end of the run pulling on the air.

Hook it up both ways and see what creates the most airflow at the window and you will see it (or feel it) clearly.

how is that can fan working for u rip ? is it loud ? do it do the job?

It's very powerful and pretty loud. It's about as loud as a bathroom blower. I haven't hooked it up to ducting yet though. I'm going to build an insulated box for it first once I start setting up the room.

I have a 170cfm inline and a 265cfm dayton in an apartment, my little AC is louder than both of them.

Like stated its better to put the fan by the window, but for noise it would be better as far from the window as possible. You could put it away from the window to restrain the noise, but you will need a more powerful fan than if done otherwise to get the same effect.

Really it depends on your situation. I have a neibour right beside me so I pull air from the window by means of a box I built to fit over the window. I pull air with an Elicent fan that is fifteen feet away connected with ducting. Outside the window it is silent. For me it was nessisary to be done this way because of the close proximity to my neibour.

Like hoosierdaddy said, its best to do it his way if sound is not a problem.

That fan (and filter) sound like they are fairly robust, and you could probably affix the filter to the exit of the fan by the window and push through it. That would deaden the sound and have the fan at the end of run. Although the filter would be a bit more efficient being pulled through, it may handle what needs to be handled just fine by pushing through it.

I just hooked up the can fan 50 (6" fan ) its sounds like a jet running. not a fan for stealth.I am in the boonies, and still i think i will try to put a muffler on it :fsu:
