I've seen them on the interwebs and they are rather cheap.. and obviously dont heat up as much as a normal light/hps/fluro/etc..

are they any good? they come with blue and red led's. apparently good spectrums??

can anyone comment about them at all??

From what Ive heard the technology isnt quite there yet, Id say give it a year. there is a couple grows on the forum, one looks real good but I think grow times increase while yields decrease, more resin production though....

Interesting,

Any chance you can link me to them threads?

every time i search it just shows a blank white page..?

cheers :)

I can't post URL's but just look in the Indoor Grows - Hydro forum...the thread is titled "New L.E.D. Arrays/Lowryda2".

Its been an interesting thread to watch...and his plant looks good...but that light system ended up costing $1,000 and I'm not sold on 'em for flowering to be honest.

I would hold off on LED systems currently...they may be the future but for now HID is still king.

Interwebs? Reminds me of Waiting for Guffman....

Seriously though, I concur that the technology just isn't there yet. That and they are very expensive to use as primary lighting. Perhaps as supplemental lighting but it's going to be a few years before we see LEDs replace any other lighting. I think T5's and LEDs are the future of indoor growing!

Sure it is. It just gave me four pages of LED links.

Click "Search" and go to "Advanced Search". Under "Search By Keyword", click "Search Titles Only" and save preferences (now every advanced search will be titles only until you change it)

Enter "led" in the Search window and hit Go.

LEDs are the future and the future isn't here yet. Give them time.

If you are electronics savvy you can make your own.

ledlightingsupply.com sells the cree XLAMP high output LEDs. 100 degree output angle kind of sucks, because you have to bring the lamps closer to the plants, but whatever. The 1W Blue LEDs are about $1.50 or so a piece IIRC, so a 100w veg light using all the cheap blue LEDs would only cost you maybe $200 to make. It would probably compete with a 250-400w MH, at less than half the power cost.

If you are not comfortable soldering LEDs to a board and power supply, and most wouldn't be, I know I am not. You can buy a procyon100, a 100w light using cree xlamps. Of course its 500 dollars or something, ridiculous.

Other options are industrial LED lighting panels that are blue could be used for veg. I've seen some linked in LED threads on this site that were 90-100watts for 100 dollars. Can't imagine those have really nice LEDs in them though for that price.
