Insecticide on Outdoor plant??

High all, I have one baby growen outdoors now. It is only about 4 inches tall but it has been attacked by bugs it seems. I just went to check on her today for the first time and noticed a lot of the new leafs are chewed up or even missing due to the bugs.

I have this insecticide called Spectracide granuales multipurpose insect killer. If I use this now on my plant will the smoke be toxic later on? Is this stuff safe to use on pot plants?

Thank u so much for your help, peace.

pot tends to suck a lot of things from the soil it grows in: heavy metals, toxins, even bacteria... but hey...you decide what goes into your body.

i'd go with neem oil. it's a biopesticide so it's safer for your plants and for you.

Ditto Gantz,

Neem oil is the most important thing for outdoor growing, I would rather have Neem than nutrients....

Slugs and Snails can be caught on a small scale by hunting them manually in likely hiding places..... chewed up or missing sounds like snails/slugs.

Hi MonsterHitz

I use liquid Sevin. Its made from chrysanthinums/Rotenone and goes nuetral in sevin days. Its cheap, harmless , effective and easy to get and use. The powder is more difficult and less effective.

Snails are the biggest problem seedlings and young plants suffer. Seedlings not protected by snail bait of any brand are in serious jeapordy. I use the pellets which seem to work well.

Should you spray neem on the plants after you plant them.. to help prevent bugs.. or wait until there are bugs?

garlic barrier works wonders for insects. half gallon is 12 bucks.

I looked up how to make a homemade pesticide. But all of them seem to be a spray. But I just want to put some in the soil because I see a sea of bugs that look like grubs around my plant. And my stem looks warped and weak, could this be because of the bugs?

My homemade recipe is dish detergent, horse radish, and minced garlic with water. If I put this in the soil, will this get rid of the bugs for a few days?

Thanks again, take care.

You can't use a spray as a soil drench. Look for a pesticide specific to grubs if you think they're a problem though I've never heard of them effecting MJ. Better yet stay organic and use some beneficial nematodes. For a spray I use Bt products, its a bacteria that is non toxic to humans but deadly to certain insects and fungus depending on which variety you use. I started a thread on it with some good info though it failed to generate any interest.

I went to my spot today and saw a slug there. I poured some of my horse radish, garlic, and soap mix and it seemed to hate it. I just poured this mixture on my baby plants leaves and most got on the soil. Will these ingredients stunt or damage my plants roots? Thanks for your help all. :)

Neem is best used as a preventative, it makes plants taste horrible to insects, then kills them.... I spray once a month during veg, no more.

MonsterHitz, it does sound like you are on the way to deal with your slug problem... but I would squash them rather than pouring potions on them.

Slugs like beer. Bury an old aluminum pie plate to ground level, pour some beer into it, next day remove the dead slugs. They drowned smiling.
