Suspect At Large After Walking Out Of Hospital​

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A St. Johns County man facing felony drug charges is on the loose after being released from an area hospital.

Lawrence Sacks was set free instead of being taken into police custody after doctors discharged him from Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center.

Earlier this month, officers tried to arrest the suspect for allegedly growing marijuana. However, after a long SWAT standoff, officers said the man shot himself in the head.

Sacks was taken to Shands in critical condition.

A Florida Department of Law Enforcement representative said the suspect was not formally charged before his hospital stay and was supposed to be arrested after his release from the hospital.

However, the FDLE claims Shands released Sacks without notifying officers. They said the man is now on the run.

Sacks’ ex-wife told Channel 4 she is terrified the man is on the loose and said she’s afraid of what her ex-husband will do to her and her family.

“My fear is for myself and my family,” she said.

“Prior to this incident happening, we had no information that he was threat to the community,” said St. Johns Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Chuck Mulligan.

Both the sheriff’s office and FDLE said they could have arrested Sacks before he was hospitalized, but they said that would have cost taxpayers thousands of dollars in security at the hospital and health care.

Shands said legally they could not notify officers of Sacks’ release because of privacy laws. They said the only way the information could have been released to investigators was if the man was already in police custody.

Anyone with information about Sacks’ whereabouts is asked to contact the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

I hope he laughed his ass off the moment he was free.

man, I love Florida...as a Floridian I can say that people do some pretty crazy shit here to stay out of trouble...Though not as dramatic, today I actually had a girl swallow a pair of earrings after being caught stealing them...She figured if there was no evidence than she couldnt be arrested....though there was the empty tag in her purse.

I once had 2 guys walk into my dealership years ago and said to me we need 2 new 4 wheelers to go hunting with. I said great we got a special going on and you can get a free gun rack and I'll install it for free. The oldest one said to me,we don't use guns. I said it holds a bow as well. he says to me we don't use a bow either. I say WTH you guys use a slingshot or what throw rocks at them he said no we ram them. I say what you run your pray over with your freakin 4 wheelers with a very interested tone in my voice? He say's no I get on one side of the deer and my brother gets on the other and we chase them around and them ram together and get'em. I ask in amazement what do ya do when the dear jumps up over the top of ya,he doesn't bat an eye and says why do ya think we need 2 new 4 wheelers?

Crazy rednecks love to be warm and Florida has as many if not more than any state in the Damn union. But if the big one hit and all we had was our wits and our skills I bet my last dollar those Rednecks would once again rule the land.

Ha Ha! its one way, I don't know about BEST way, Im not gonna try it... You must really feal like a failure after you shoot yourself in the head and it doesnt work, poor guy cant do SHIT right. Yeah his ex(who I think snitched in him) doesnt have to worry, hes not to good at killin stuff. Lucky as hell though, probly shoulda went for the heart....
As far as the doctors, yep, they did there job right, good shit.
