Young Woman Busted for Pot Gets Killed Acting as Police Informant

This was over at the CC forums and didn't see it over here so I thought I was post the article. Tis a shame law enforcement uses poeple out of fear as their own guinea pig but doesn't want to fess up when something goes bad.

I thought the best part was how she failed to 'follow directions accurately' when 1. She isn't a cop, no experience/training 2. Probably wasn't involved in a 1500 xtacy pills and ounces of cocaine and a GUN? .... who busted for pot wouldn't feel a little nervous in ^ that situation??? I mean seriously did the cops just add a gun on the list of things to buy to MAKE SURE and fire arm was involved?

I am sorry but I am stoner, that must be why this doesn't make sense. I understand what being a rat usually means but looks like she just got thrown into this one.

Dumb fucking pigs... do you ever learn?

Young Woman Busted for Pot Gets Killed Acting as Police Informant

Parents blame Tallahassee police in death of 23-year-old Pinellas woman made to act as an informant following a marijuana arrest

Irv Hoffman and Margie Weiss wondered Friday how their only child went from police informer to murder victim. Rachel Hoffman, 23, who grew up in Pinellas County and recently graduated from Florida State University, was found dead in a rural area near Tallahassee two days after she disappeared while helping police with a narcotics investigation.

On Friday evening, her parents gathered with friends in their daughter's Tallahassee apartment. They railed against the Tallahassee Police Department for putting their daughter in harm's way and then blaming her for getting killed. "It's like sending a lamb into the den with the lions," said Irv Hoffman, 58, of Palm Harbor.

Before Rachel Hoffman disappeared, Weiss remembered getting a call from her daughter, who planned to come home for Mother's Day. "She asked me to pray for her," Weiss said. "She was going to do something that was dangerous." Hoffman's parents wondered why police allowed a young woman with no police training to make such a dangerous rendezvous. So far, many of their questions have gone unanswered.

Last year, Hoffman was charged with felony marijuana possession. Then, she failed to appear in court. Her parents think she felt pressured to help police to clear her name. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, police announced Friday that Hoffman faced multiple felony charges when she agreed to pose as a buyer. On Wednesday, she was supposed to purchase 1,500 pills of ecstasy, 2 ounces of cocaine or crack cocaine and a gun.

Police said she didn't follow protocol, leaving officer supervision to go with Andrea J. Green and Deneilo Bradshaw, now suspects in her disappearance and her death. Green has spent time in prison on charges of selling marijuana and aggravated assault with a weapon. "Unfortunately, Rachel chose to ignore precautions established in a previous briefing as well as the direction of her case agent," police Chief Dennis Jones said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Green and Bradshaw on Thursday in Orlando, according to the Democrat. On Friday, they led police to Hoffman's body and were charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.

A graduate of Countryside High School in Clearwater, Hoffman majored in psychology at FSU. Later, she realized her passion was cooking and planned to go to culinary school in Arizona. Hoffman's father described her as an affectionate person who loved her cat Bently and sought thrills: skydiving, traveling in Europe and the Middle East, parasailing, even riding in a hot-air balloon. "In 23 years she probably did more than most people do in 60 years," Irv Hoffman said.

Weiss, of Safety Harbor, said the marijuana possession was a minor offense that shouldn't have landed her in such trouble. "They destroyed her whole life and her future," Weiss, 57, said. "My daughter's life has been taken away from me."

Never turn state's evidence...it's a bad idea that can create mortal enemies... better to serve the time and be done with it. I hope the cop involved wakes up every morning with the mental image of Rachel engraved in their mind. Her blood is on their hands.

I'm sure she had plenty of "help" from the police in making the decision to become a buyer for them. Sad, sad, sad. I find it rather interesting that she had a felony charge of possession which in Florida is more than 20 grams, but they had her out there buy crack and x. 1,500 pills and a few onces of crack! Oh yeah a gun too. That is nuts. Hope those jerk offs loose some serious sleep over this one. Or better yet get thrown in jail.

Obviously a major law suit is in order here.I hope they pay through the nose and a couple cops lose their job over this.

That sucks. I'm kind of torn here. I feel bad for the victims family. On the other hand, I feel that it should be the fate of anyone who cooperates with LEO in such a way. I'm sure the pigs pressured the hell out of her with a bunch of threats of stiff sentences and all. Fucking bullshit.

Thanks a lot war on drugs

Thanks a lot war on drugs

Aren't THEY supposed to be the ones with all the experience? Why weren't THEY the ones going in and making a buy? I also agree with Frank. She probably just got caught with an ounce or so and they slapped a felony on her. Now they put her out there in even more danger than she was ever in. Buying 1,500 ecstasy pills, two ounces of coke and a gun?! You're just looking for trouble. If they wanted it done right, they should have done it themselves. That's fucking retarded and I hope the police department pays for this. However, she shouldn't have agreed to do it. I'm sure the police offered her some sort of deal in return but the point is she shouldn't be facing jail time at all for weed.

WORD. - Never 'fuck' with the feds

I bet the dealers could sense her nervousness from the time they saw her. They prob said lets take a ride and then ripped her wire off.

It goes to show how little LEO cares.

I hope Leo doesn't make a habit out of giving people felony charges for possession, just to use them to as CI against hard drug dealers.

Think about it, who is their right mind would want to be in that CI position. Looks like they are blackmailing people.

assuming she went back to the same dealer, who in their right mind wouldn't think it was some sort of setup! she bought 20 grams of mj but then soon after wants to buy 1500xtc pills, 2z's of coke and a gun. looking at her you'd think this is just totally out of place. this happened in florida, so is anyone really surprised?

wait, felony posession of WEED is 20g is florida?? i cant be reading that right

Looked it up on the Norml website. I was curious what it would take to get charged with a felony in Florida. How deep in was she? No way to really know, but my guess is she wasn't busted with something like a pound. It said she was charged with possession and in Florida over 20 grams is a felony. While she shouldn't have agreed to help the popo in the first place. She should have told them to go f*ck themselves when they told her she was going to buy x, crack and a gun. What the hell does that have to have to do with mj? Not a damn thing.

Sounds to me like she got jacked and killed. Nothing to do with police training or being a narc. 1500 pills, oz's of coke and a pistol? She would be showing up *ALONE* (a female, no less) with $20K cash to do that deal. No sane person (that knows the game) would show up to do that deal without strapped backup. I hate snitches 100% but it's sad that the cops pressured her to flip into that situation.

Not sure why if pot is such the evil drug, they didn't just try and have her take more of that vicious weed off the street as opposed to crack and X.

/end sarcasm

The right lawyer getting this should be able to show her as a martyr and bring some of this hypocrisy to light.....except that it is here in Fl.

very good point about the back up i never would do deal like that with out a few players on my side in the dark and few in the light. 2 many things go wrong

{but it's sad that the cops pressured her to flip into that situation } true and to use a female pothead to snitch E/ crack dealers whom also sell Guns most likely stolen guns. :bashhead: GJ FLA Leo hope ya get yer a$$ sued off and her parents win :headbange

I used to live in Florida, and there is one thing you don't do and that's f*ck with rednecks. Too many tweakers and violent nonsensical neanderthals. tallahassee, and jacksonville are some of the worst areas to be in. And you have to have friends there to get by or keep to yourself. Don't send a girl in to do a swat teams job. And why are they going apesh*t over a mj bust? Shouldn't they be bringing down methlabs and ridding the community of scum? Nah, that means leo would actually have to do their job.
