Grow 8oz's of Bud for Less Than $100

I have been growing MJ for over 20 years. Outdoors in the early years, and mostly indoors for the last 7 years. My indoor grows have been almost entirely with 1000wt systems. Needless to say it is expensive to run those, and summer costs with a/c can be huge.

I have mainly grown large winter/spring grows lately that give me plenty of bud for the year. This leaves the summer months with nothing to due except try to maintain some mother plants until late September when I crank it up again.

I just got done read SeeMoreBuds book on how to grow 8 oz's of bud for less than $100, so it seems like a fun project to give a try during these long summer months. Kind of a fun little side project that could inspire others if it is sucessful. I make no claims to the sucsess of this, and everyone will see the results I see, good or bad.

I will document the results starting today in this thread, including all planning and steps. I hope it is sucsessful and you enjoy it as much as me.

I always go into a new project with a plan.

Today I will concentrate on seed selection. I am not considering the cost of the genetics in this project. The purpose of this is to grow the seeds for around $100 cost, and see if it can be done.

SeeMoreBuds said he used the mango plant in his grow with this method. I have looked around for some decent strains that would be rather short, potent, and give decent yield. I selected Growdoc's Mummia, and Rezdog's Snowdog BX1.

Mummia is Jack Herer x Soma's RockBud, so I expect that to be very potent and stable. Snowdog is indica dominant and a great yielder. These should give me the desired results I am looking for.

I always see that book but never read it..how can you grow 8oz for $100? even running a 400 for an entire flowering time would cost me more than $100.. :badday:

Stay tuned and find out BiG H3rB Tr3E. This will be new to me, so in the upcoming weeks I will have the plan all laid out and ready to start. It should be fun.

400w * 12 hours * 60 days * $0.10/kwh = $28.80
What the hell do you pay for electric?:puppydoge

A 250w running on 12/12 for 60 days @ $0.10kwh (I pay 0.13) would be $18, and you'd need to harvest a hair under .9gpw. I'm curious to see how to do this, looking forward to updates.

I've figured out the wattage for my 150w cab, fans and everything included, and it costs me a little over $20 a month to run, but I don't think I could get much more than 4oz out of a harvest.

Vortex - 80w*24*30 = 57.6kW/h
150w HPS - 175w*12*30 = 63kW/h
Circulation Fan - 36w*24*30 = 25.9kW/h
Ballast Fan - 22w*24*30 = 15.8kW/h

Cabinet Total = 162.3kW/h

@ $0.13 = $21.10/month

OK, this project is officially under way. Seeds have been selected. The plan has been worked out. I am heading down to the local home improvement store to start buying the materials for the light fixture this afternoon. I'll post some pictures tomorrow, and will be reporting costs as I go along.

I think it is quite strange to discount the cost of seeds. They are a vital component unless you've got a clone. Even people who use bagseed have to have bought the weed in the first place. The only way you should exclude seeds is if you've been given them IMO. Other than that it sounds very interesting. Good luck.

Getting 8oz's from seed in under 90 days is going to be quite a challenge, very curious to see how things go.

If it's a 9 week flowering strain, will you only be vegging for 3 weeks? Do you know how much wattage you're working with or does it depend on your budget? Will everything, including nutes, cabinet/tent/whatever, and electrical stuff be included in the cost?

Keep up with the documentation, this could turn into a great guide to go by. :headbange

I know what you are saying. I could have used my current seed stock, but I know for a fact these strains are low yielders. Very potent, but it would never yield the desired goals. I am sort of isolated from the cannabis community and most of the people I know would crucify me if they knew I grow weed, thus it was hard for me to obtain any decent strains for this project except to purchase them on Seedbay.

Now that these types of strains are purchased, I will take advantage of them and future runs of this nature will not require additional seed purchases. The purpose of this project will be to complete this grow from scratch at $100 or less, and not include the initial cost of the seeds. I will do a small micro grow later, and breed these seeds for additional seed stock for later runs.

I just picked up most of the items I will need from Lowes, and I will show you the equipment and detail costs tomorrow.

I know this will be a challange, especially with the equipment I will be using, but I am up for it, so I will use all my grow knowledge to make it a reality.

In the book that outlines the method, SeeMoreBuds uses the Mango strain in his example. I will be using a strain called Mummia, which is Jack Herer x Rockbud. Growdoc says it is a commercial yielder that can be grown with no veg time, and the plants can be packed tightly together. This should allow decent yield with this setup. We will see!!!

and he grows from seed? Well, I'll be moving around Sept, so I look forward to your results, I might have to make a copy of your setup it all goes well! :headbange

Sounds like a great thread. I just spent $100 on lights for my closet grow.

A side note: When you guys are figuring your electric rate at $.10-$.13/kWh, I don't think you are adding all the other little taxes/fees/surcharges in with it. I took my total electric bill and divided it by my kWh usage and it comes out to more like $.20/kWh. (western NY area)
