what is the SAFEST WAY TO VENT UNDETECTED?

For you pros out there, how do you vent safely to avoid choppers and flir.

It will vary according to location, building/house style etc.

List methods here

few things ill throw in to start the discussion:

1) FIRST, you must have the room that will be used sealed nicely, (IMO, and depending on # of lights)

to properly seal for thermal imaging, its best to create a room within a room sorta speak. so that there is a layer of air between the outer wall and the wall of your grow.

2) the actual vent needs to NOT exhaust the hot air onto any part of your house. THIS IS A MUST. FLIR shws SURFACE temps. so if your exhaust is being pushed on your siding, the siding is going to heat up from the warm air, and light the FLIR camera up. remember FLIR doesn't measure the temp of the actual air its taking a pic of.

I understand point number 1

point 2:
So the flir cannot pick up on hot air, just the hot things that the air heats up. -

so what are some typical ways people with large grows vent to avoid that heat sig.

Im guessing the use of vent material that will stay cool, ?

Well you're right about the sewer ExEcutioner, that's the best way if you can.

Alternatively, if that's not possible, try to go up the chimney, as that's not suspicious, unless it's in summer.

Another idea is vent into another room, cool the air with air con, then vent it out.

Having the lights on at night, and venting lots of hot air out at 2-6am (sleeping time) raises red flags for choppers too, so if you can, run the lights in the day to minimise a heat signature.

It's not easy to get rid of large amounts of hot air, but these ways will definately help.

Peace

I have lot's of legal reasons why hot air is blowing out of different parts of the house. Dryer, oven, hot water heater, fireplace and cooktop. During the day all are running in every house around me too ;-)

I imagine your strategy would vary with the amount of heat. A Detroit area house busted recently, shown in this pic, probably had too much heat to hide by venting it into the air. I didn't notice in the TV show (Spike TV's 'DEA') exactly how many lights there were, but it seemed to be on the order of 10K.

They vented up the chimney here, but then the whole chimney got hot. Maybe the house was under-vented, so the exhaust air was too hot? I would have tried venting into the sewers in this case. Better yet, use half the lights.

Bulldog- Thanks, running the lights in the daytime seems to be a must and i like the vent into another insulated room with an ac option too.

Majere- Beautiful plants-what strain?

That is the first i have ever heard of that technique.

That method doesn't heat up the house or the surrounding ground?

Can u explain how that works in a little more detail

Your garden is looking sweet btw, very healthy aspect, and nice that you can vent downwards.

ExEcutioner ~ those were mandala speed queen and golden skush F2
my crawl space is well vented with vynal (sp?) skirting
its only a 600w so no noticable warming of the house or ground
no snow melts either in the winter

i built the box with a hole right in the floor, just had to measure twice cut once :joint:
foam in a can seals everything up

I have no basement. I have a crawlspace underneath the house.. where plumbing and air ducting runs. I also have an attic. Which would be better to vent to.. attic or to the crawl space.. if crawl space.. what kinda tool do I need to use to make a cut through the floor? Ceilnig is much easier to cut out.. so I have it vented to the attic now; but thinknig vent to crawl space would be better.

i drilled a small hole, and used a jigsaw
however if i had a attic i would vent there :rasta:

do what works best for you in your situation, and have fun
