What's new

Little white worm, what is this? Not an infestation, but do I need to worry?

So I've seen this little worm a few times now, only in my seedling cups, usually when I gently dig with my finger to see where the seeds are at, since the seeds planted into the canna coco have taken so much longer to come up.

I saw one actually inside of a cracked seed, it crawled out.

I'm not certain they aren't in my other plants keg cups as well, I just don't go digging through them, but I certainly haven't seen any, and it is far from an infestation at this point, I've only seen 3 of them in 3 different cups. Again, I haven't seen these guys when I water or anything.

Point blank, I want to know what this thing is, and if I need to worry.

It moves and squirms like a worm and is white, that's the best I can describe.

I know the pics aren't great, but they're the best my camera can do that close up. It just has trouble focusing (even with the little "flower" option turned on, I think it is super macro) that close up.

Careful with the pics, the white glare from the water is not the worm, though it is often near/overlapping the worm.

last but not least, in the actual coco itself, before I dug it up for the shot, it's the only real white thing in the middle of the picture.

anyone else?

what to do, how to worry?

I did apply this "mostiquito larvae" killer.

it is organic, some form of bacteria I think

bacillius thuringiensis subspecies israelensis

It doesn't really disolve, just pellets.

I threw it in water for a few hours, and watered most plants with it about a week ago, just made sure when watering each plant ended up with a few pellets.

I probably had no more than 1 tbsp of pellets in the water, maybe closer to 2 tsp.

The guy at the hydro store said that this stuff will kill ANY kind of fly larvae.

So should I worry about these worms?

I didn't think they were larvae, but again I'm far from experienced.

YUp got fungus gnat larva, get some mosquito dunks and use 1/2 dunk per gallon of water and repeat every 7 days or as needed... should clear them up real quick.

Where the heck do those sort of things come from that they make it into your grow medium?

what is a mosquito dunk?

is it similar to the product I mentioned above? Sounds like it could be the same thing with different delivery, the stuff I have looks like brown perlite, just pellets.

I've noticed something interesting, the pellets on the surface of the coco have grown white stuff around them. To me, it looks alot like mycillium (sp) or mold, I cannot tell which, but to me it looks more like mycillium, but mold and myclillium look similar.

It's just real light growth, but still...

Do you know the active ingredient in these mosquito dunks?

I'm going to guess they aren't pellets, as you said to use 1/2 per pot.

Just trying to figure out if the stuff I'm using is ok.

on another note, just did a bunch of transplanting, and my grow space ran out of room, I'm badly in need of setting up my other cab.

Seriously not enough room, the transplanted plant containers have too big of a footprint to fit it all.

I'm definately starting to get preflowers, but I cannot tell what kind they are yet.

I just see a little nub growth next to the new branch coming out in between nodes, even with a lense, I can't tell what it is yet.
