Bulb orientation?

If growing in a 28"x40" box should the bulb (inside a DIY cooltube with an internal reflector) be placed perpendicular or parallel to the long side of the box? It's a stadium scrog. I am pretty sure it should be parallel to the long side, but I'm not 100% sure.

Should a 400w HPS be good for this box?

Thanks!

i think that parallel would be the best way also and im thinking that 400w should be more than enough for that box.

Hmmm, 6 months ago, but similar question to mine>
The space is um, in inches, 24x67, open on one long side for ~30 inches to wall
There are 2 400w HPS. They are parallel to the long side. Is that the right way to orient the bulbs? How much does it matter???

Parallel to the short side is the recommended orientation. That way, the light is stronger at the edges close to the short sides. IMO in a small space, with the lights close to the tops, it's a small difference. Just fit the light in anyway you can! My cab is 24" X 36". I thought that would be enough to get a Cooltube (19" long) in there, but when I went to hook up the Cooltube, it would not fit across the 24" with reducers or elbows included. So I have no choice but to orient the tube across the 36" side.

I vote with Pete. Lamps throw light to the sides, perpendicular to their shaft. They throw very little forward, parallel to the shaft, and no light at all backwards. But, if it don't fit, it don't fit. Do what'cha gotta' do
