What is the smallest cutting you have made for a clone? meaning, how much plant in inches was ABOVE ground? does it really matter?

I have had rooted clones that were so small, the top leaves were laying on the medium. I wouldnt advice doing that though as they never took off like the bigger clones

you asked for the smallest, so

2 inches above, .5-1 inch below soil with tiny nubs and quarter inch roots already just starting before putting into the soil.

width spread maybe 2.5-3 inches from fan leaf tip to fan leaf tip. two main fan leaves, and one->two smaller fans maybe half the main ones size starting to grow from the center of the cutting. sometimes will snip the pointed tips down quarter inch on all of them.

i think a bigger cutting has a better chance though, if it's a PIA to clone strain. maybe 4-6 inches. 4 above, 2 below would be safer. whatever works for you man.

For standard cloning for cannabis, you just need a growing tip. As for cloning in general, you could go into such tiny plant matter through tissue culture.

I keep my cuttings small. Usually 2-3 inches total. Smallest was about 1/2 inch. By keeping the cutting small and trimming off the majority of leaves, the slips water needs are greatly reduced and there is no need for a dome. Without a dome there's no loss of cuttings from dome removal. I'm in a dry climate 20-30 percent humidity on average but, regularly drops into the teens. Each cutting gets a grand total of two drops of water. Once when placed in rockwool, once 12 hours later. Any more than that they have to find on their own.

NOTE: What works flawlessly for some is disaster for others. Keep trying things till you find what works for you. If you're succeding less the 95%, keep looking.
