The decrim bill:

My rep wrote a response that included this paragraph:

As you may know, H.R.5842 was introduced by Representative Barney Frank on April 17.2008. If enacted, this legislation would abolish the federal government's ability to punish the 12 states who have recently adopted laws which allow for the medical use of marijuana.
TO PUNISH!!!!!!

My question to him:
Do you represent the people or the federal government?

Politicizing pain by regulation

By: Ron Paul | Submitted on: 05/05/08

EDITORIAL - K.K. Forss does not claim medical marijuana solves all his
problems. His pain from a ruptured disc in his neck is debilitating. He is
unable to go to work or to the First Baptist Church he used to attend
because of the pain and muscle spasms. Taxpayers through Medicare spend over
$18,000 a year on his various medications. Half of those drugs are strong
narcotics. The other half address the various side-effects brought on by the
first half, such as nausea, heartburn, heart palpitations, difficulty
sleeping, and muscle spasms.

No, marijuana would not completely address all his pain, but it made a
tremendous difference in the quality of his life when he tried it for over a
year. It helped him regain 38 pounds he had lost. It calmed his muscle
spasms and helped him sleep. In short, it alleviated many side effects and
greatly reduced his need for other expensive medications. Mr. Forss
estimates that being allowed to use medical marijuana would save taxpayers
at least $12,000 a year in medications he would no longer need. He would
also be able to work occasionally and attend some church services.

Scientists at the University of California at Davis recently completed a
study that backs up Mr. Forss's experience, finding that cannabis
demonstrates significant relief of neuropathic pain. Many in government call
for more studies while people like K.K. Forss suffer. More studies will not
change what many patients already know, and that is for some, medical
marijuana helps their pain. But over-reaching government gets in the way.

K.K. Forss lived in constant fear of federal and state officials so he
eventually stopped taking medical marijuana and switched to his more
rigorous and expensive pill regimen. Presently, twelve states have passed
legislation allowing marijuana, under certain conditions, to be prescribed
legally by doctors for patients who could benefit from it. K.K. Forss lives
in Minnesota, where it is not yet legal. However, even if it is legalized by
the state, Mr. Forss will still have plenty to fear from the Federal
government, as cannabis dispensaries and clinics that operate under these
state laws are still under fire from the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In other words, the federal government sees fit to use our tax dollars to
raid state sanctioned healthcare clinics, to imprison and fine patients and
operators, in order to compel people like Mr. Forss to be bedridden and
overmedicated at great taxpayer expense every single day.

The Federal government should recognize that states have the authority to
decide these issues. This affords all states the opportunity to see which
policies are most beneficial. As a Congressman and a physician, I strongly
advocate that healthcare decisions should be made by doctors and patients,
not politicians or federal agents, which is why I am an original co-sponsor
of the recently introduced "Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act" which
would bar the Federal government from intervening in such doctor/patient
relationships that violate no state law.

The bottom line is that K.K. Forss should be treated as a free American. Mr.
Forss is one of many who would like to use marijuana medicinally because it
helps him. Politicians and bureaucrats have no right to interfere.

Ron Paul is a Congressman from the 14th district of Texas and enjoys a
national reputation as the premier advocate for liberty in politics today.

Hello everyone

Great job peanutbutter. Great ideas and recommendations  There is a lot of good work here...you should be proud :tips hat:

I'm not really familiar with why McCain is so against medical use. I can't play those youtube links either (browser gets confused). But, I wouldn't mind being able to speak with him personally from my perspective on the subject and try to convince him otherwise.

I think I saw a part of one of the confrontations/instances a while back and I only remember he seemed a little indignant about it. What does he absolutely hate about MMJ?, does anyone really know? (don't give me the irrational McCain either :) ).

There is no reason for anger (different from righteous indignation ;) ) on this subject...it is not worth. That anger can be better directed where required ;)

Sorry to hear you were unjustly treated by the system, peanutbutter. I don't know the details, but, using our laws against people for growing a beneficial plant (that could ultimately become profitable industry--especially Hemp *in a capitalist society* <---that part is just crazy  ) is a wasteful use of valuable resources and it is disgusting to witness its use for such things.

Salud, peanutbutter....and everyone else for your part.

Take care everyone,

In Gonzales v. Raich the US Supreme Court ruled that:

If marijuana is the only thing that keeps a citizen alive, it is the responsibilty of the citizen to die.

They ruled this way to support a law passed by congress.

Congress can also fix this same law.

Isn't it about time?

Several reasons.

This is an election year. If we, the marijuana community, can convince politicians that this issue matters, they may see the wisdom of openly using the issue to gain votes.

There have been several "dominos" that have fallen in terms of states. Twelve states now. There are at least three states, Minnisota, Michigan and New York, that are racing to become state number thirteen.

Public support has been rising. The issue of medical marijuana will be on the November ballot in Michigan. A recient poll of 600 random voters shows that only 28% will vote no.

As long as we let our elected officials know that it important to us NOW, the more likely they will give way.

It's election time .. Right now is the most likely time to push them to comply to the will of the people.

This change will not take place if people stay quiet!

At LEAST, please send them one e-mail per day to let them know that you are serioius!

At the end of every day, some intern gives a report to your congressman about all received letters and e-mails.

The report contains totals about which bill and the count of for or against.

Let's stuff the box!

I'm urging everyone to click on both of the above links once per day. .. until it all goes away.

E-mail this to your friends .. pass it on. just one click per day can change things for us!

If your congressman already supports either of these bills, ask them to co-sponsor. The more co-sponsors the faster the bill comes to the floor.

I think it has some to do with bias. He was raised in a generation of misinformation and he still clings onto those ideals. Money could also play a role, as well as playing up "conservative" values.

Its worth a try but good luck convincing McCain's liberal ass to change his mind about ganja. They want it to stay illegal because they make money off all of the bullshit prescription drugs. If pot was legalized for medicinal use everyone would be able to grow their own medicine and not buy the governments crap... thats what they fear.

I just clicked my first of many clicks today :smoker:

I happen to live in the good ol' Pac. NW. So I am at least in a state with medical laws.

However , I am unfortunately still dealing with the repercussions of getting busted with "less than 40grams" a little over 2 years ago...

I would love to see this bill pass more than anything....but I honestly just don't see it happening.

I have this always growing disgust for my own country and all the secretive, underhanded, alternate-agenda bullshit in our government.

Somewhere along the line MJ accecptance will lose someone with a lot of power some money.
Whoever that person/people are will likely quash it when they feel they need to:abduct:.

There is some reason MJ is such a hot potato for our government.

I have no idea why they try to make us believe all the bullshit they do.
They know it's not true :D.
They know we know:YaRight:.
But they still try :beat-dead.
They have a motive for keeping MJ down. :sasmokin:

Whatever that motive is I dont know, but there are a lot of theories out there.:alien:

Here is the DICKHEADs response:

Thank you for contacting me regarding medical marijuana. I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with me.

Currently there are twelve states-mostly in the West and not including Ohio-that have legalized medical marijuana. However, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration does not recognize these state laws and has vowed to investigate and arrest, under federal statute, medical marijuana providers and users in those states and elsewhere. There is currently language in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Revitalization Act, passed by the Senate, which requires that state-legalized medical marijuana be subject to the full regulatory requirements of the FDA.

While I am deeply sympathetic to those who suffer from painful illnesses and diseases, I do not believe our society should place its faith in mind-altering, dangerous drugs. Legalizing medical marijuana would undermine our nation's efforts to curb illegal drug use, thereby setting a bad example for children, not to mention taking a step backward from advances in medical science and the development of legitimate cures and medicines.

Again, I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. I hope you will find this information helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any other concerns or questions you may have. You can reach us by phone at (202) 225-2676, or by e-mail through our website at http://jordan.house.gov.

wow

illogical

1. class 1 marijuana technically has medical value so should not be class 1

2. FDA is a joke(fact)

3. our society needs no 'faith' - but science

4. if its legalized its no longer illegal...

5. public school sets a bad example for youth(moot point)

6. where did he get his doctors degree at? does he personally know where medical advances in science are going to come from?
