What's new

Just got a Daisy Cloner....Now What?

I just bought an 8 site aero-cloner. What do I need now. I have clonex gel for cloning the old fashion way...do I still use it...is there some other additive that I need to add to the water? I read I may need a liquid rooting hormone, but will just my clonex work? If so how much do I add to the giant 1 gallon reservoir? So what do all you aero grower do? Any help appreciated.

Theoretically, all you need is water but, I've never had success that way. I don't know how strong the aero function is (big drops, little drops) if it's strong enough it could wash the gel away. Liquid hormones would stay in the water and be constantly delivered to the stems. Soaking the stem in full strength hormone solution for one minute raised my success rate from 45% to over 99% but, I do the Rockwool method and this may not apply.

Most important is, what works for some is disaster for others. Keep trying different things until it works for you.

Thanks for the advice....I think I'm just going to return this stupid thing today. I know a lot about pumps and this big ass thing is going to heat up the 1 gallon of water too much....bad design....probably would have a lot of stem rot issues. I just never had the greatest luck with clones otherwise...they either bend in half and stay that way or fall over, don't root etc. I think I'm going to try rockwool now.

Thats true...I guess what I'm most concerned about now is how the transplant from aero to my ebb n flow is going to go down. I didn't really think ahead before i bought this thing.

theres no issue going from an aero cloner to a ebb and flo table. Several people have done it and I just transplanted some today from an aero cloner, right into a bed of hydroton in a table.

have you tried rapid rooters? That works well for me.

Like freezerboy said, what works for some, is horrible for others. Find what works for you

If you're good with your hands then, take the thing back to the store. Most of us here could build 2-3 of them for "free" with stuff laying around the house. Use the savings on some good beans.

Thanks for all the helps guys!!

yamaha....yes I use rapid rooters they kick butt....I wish they made giant versions of them!

Freezer...I was going to build my own. I had most of the parts. The main reason I bought it was because it was so compact. I don't have enough room in the Mother area to fit a humidity dome and tray. This nifty little daisy cloner fits perfect....all be it a waste of cash...but I've got tons of great seeds.
(200 , 5 strains) not tons to some, but it is to me....Oh yeah, I got a bottle of that Hormex stuff, thanks for the good tip. The guy at the hydro shop said mostly "old cats" buy it!!!

Thanks again

Maybe you spent $5 more than the next guy but, if it gets your plants going, it was a solid purchase.

I had a dome and tray and it was HUGE. Fascinated by the theoretical ease of bubble cloners, I built a baby one to try it out. 400% failure rate for me :badday: However, it performs the same function as the clone tray, keeping water saturated with air. I swapped the foam plugs the cuttings fit through for rockwool cubes the cuttings fit in and ... voila. I'm now cloning in 1/3 the space. Were I willing to invest another 99¢ on a new tub, I could go smaller still.

"Old cats?" lol. What a polite way of saying Geezer. I'm sure any B1 solution would do the same.

Yeah I'm sure anyhting with B vit. and Thiamin(or whatever its called) would work.

What I'm wondering now is how much Hormex to add to the reservoir. I'll soak em for a min. like the bottle says...then i was thinking a tsp. and 1/2 should be fine to put in the res. If not I'll find out soon!

I use it at a few drops per gallon but, I soak in full strength for a minute.

That's a sweet little unit (pun fully intended) How do you heat the res? Or do you?

I love the Daisy cloners or otherwise the first generation rain forest. They work great. I like using rooting hormone too... Lots of people use cloning gel, but I'm kind of old school. I like using dip n gro. It's always worked for me regardless of the medium.
