SOG pruning techniques?

hey everyone i was wondering if i can get some advice on "lollipoping" my babies.

how soon before i flower should i prune?

how much should i prune?

any helpful pointers will be much appreciated

if you want lollypop prune about 5 days into flower when you start seeing the nod tightin up, you would want to do 3/4 of the plant that will give you a forsure lollypop.

You may want to try different ways. I lollipopped mine about halfway up. I did get my biggest buds yet and very very little popcorn, compared to previous grows. But yield was down a little. If you have side shoots of decent length, I may suggest leaving them and just cleaning them up on the bottom.

Also how big are they before you throw them into 12/12?

yamaha- there about 12-16 inches when i flip the lights. i also use phosphaload a few days after i start 12/12 so they dont get any taller.

i have never pruned befor i usually skip every other site on my Apollo 3, but after reading threads from Albert Hoffman and Stoney419 their information and pictures has convinced me to prune. i am basically looking for the best pruning technique for a SOG grow

hey yamaha what did you yield, i just harvested that picture i posted above about 2 wks ago it was 2 tray 2k light and i got about 4lb 1oz off of it. that is my first time getting 2lb per 1k, last time i got close to that.

This last one blew chunks and sucked ass. I got less than 3 pounds. I had some that went hermie though from me opening the door during last harvest. I am working on vegging them longer before going to 12/12.

Why dont you want them to get any taller?

hey rip about 30 plants i forgot which one had how much but it was give or take 2. i try to fill in most space as possible.

i trim all the way up on day one of flower to the top node or two i should trim again at day 10 but i dont cause i dont like to move them once i turn down the lights but just remember every srain is differnt and some don't like to be lolly poped

here is a suggestion....

Try a near pure indica plant like sensi star, or hashberry... pack them tight, grow them to the size almost want then flower. These plants have very little stretch and will produce nothing but solid bud.

but such lovely tasting bud.. hehehe

unclefreedom- right on uncle, im popping off some afghani kush right now and i have never pruned before so i dont know how its going to react. ive heard that ghani kush is 100% indica but i also heard its 80/20

has anyone ever tried lollipoping Afghani kush, or some OG kush . when im done with my babies in a few weeks im going to start a tray of Ghani and a tray of some real OG and give them a good pruning. anyone have any experience lollipoping these strains?

this is what i did about a week in dunno if this counts as sog btw i trimed every thing that was about 8 - 10 " below the canopy





really i just went in and started cutting and it turnd out like this lol

My rule of thumb for trimming is to remove the bottom two or three nodes (aka bottom 4 to 6 branches) and all the smaller buds toward the bottom of the remaining branches. Also, any lower branches that are on the outside of the light footprint, because they will get blocked out by the tall main cola.

It really will vary by the strain and growroom though. Just gotta experiment to find what your plants like in your setup.

I dont know if I would stunt their growth at all. I throw mine in 12/12 and let them stretch as much as they can. Then they start to bud and fatten up. Not sure if stunting them would get them to bud faster and wind up producing more bud. But my plants are itty bitty when going into 12/12

this is how I do it to...Here is a quick 1-2-3 of pruning for high density sog.

1 - Find a strain that does well being heavily pruned early in life

2 - select a well rooted clone



3 - trim all nodes except very top (leave 2 nodes if they are really tight at the top or if the top node is not fully developed)


4 - plant them (if comming from aero, then wrap the roots around the pot




5 - grow a lot of weed and hope the cops don't come knocking



ps - this is what happens when you use this technique on a strain that doesn't like it

J/K I know it sounds crazy cutting them up but just try it.

I actually wait till day about day 14 after they have stretched some and are settled in and go up 1/2 to 3/4 way. I may have some pics in my gallery, who knows.

SToney and Albert are SOG gurus. Trust them.

do you need to prune at all? i cut small clones, 2inches maybe a bit more or less. it doesnt seem nessecery to prune at all in my case. maybe yours is diff, but it sounds like you havnt got that far yet. if they are short, i dont see the need to pune. ive only been doing this less then a year and am also still learning big time! none of mine end up bigger then 14inches or so, give or take of course.
