T5 versus CMH for vegging?

Yamahafan - I have both a CMH and a T5 for vegging, and I think that for you, the CMH bulbs in your old HPS ballasts would be a cheaper and better light. The T5 is a great light, with great coverage, but I think the CMH will produce bigger, healthier plants compared to the T5. The T5 is a great solution for a closet you don't ventilate, but since you already have the environment and ventilation dialed in, the CMH's spectrum and penetration will trump the T5. ust my 2 cents though. :rasta:

I have replaced many, many 400 watters with four lamp T5 HO fixtures. Twice the output, half the amps.

I'm going to have to say T5 all the way again. If you do it right T5's will allow for tighter node spacing and explosive growth, using much less energy than a CMH.

I like the Growbrite fixtures from HTG, not as nice as a Sunleaves but they will always replace it if there are any problems. I have both their house brand and two Growbrite fixtures, both of which work wonderfully and have had no problems thus far, and that's with months and months and months of constant use. 4' eight lamp T5 for $269

I went and bought a T5. Should be here next week hopefully. Guess I'll find out how well it works. I may get a CMH bulb and do a comparison later on

yamaha - you made the right choice...although I'm sure the cmh would kick ass. Nothing is going to out perform a T5 bed for you application. You just can't beat the light distribution...when you need 200 clones to all get the SAME light intensity a single bulb source is not going to cut it.
