Ghetto-style germination technique

Hi all,

I thought I'd share this ghetto-style seed germination technique:

Of course you need somewhere warm to germ seeds, so the usual places are on top of a warm ballast, on top of a gas boiler, a pro heated propagator, etc, but what if it's cold in your place, and you don't have access to any of the above??

Fear not, because here's how to do it, lol!

- Have two plates with moist kitchen roll on them (spray with water using spray gun), put seeds on one plate and cover with the other plate.

- Boil about a litre of water in a pan & then turn off the heat

- Use another plate and put it on top of the pan (for insulation, to stop the seed plates getting too hot)

- Put your seed plates on top of the other plate

- Monitor the temperature of the seed plates & keep them warm

- Remove insulation barrier plate when the water starts to cool

- Keep spraying occasionally to keep the tissues moist

- Reheat the water in the pan as required

After a day or two, the seeds will crack, and you can transfer them to your medium

Peace

Is someone seriously going through this much trouble just to germinate seeds?

Here's my two step program:
- Put the seeds between a piece of toilet paper
- Keep it moist

iRokz, in a cold room in winter for example, your method won't work (especially for tropical strains) - you need a source of heat.....tried, tested and Worked!

Plus if you keep the plates warm, they will germ in the fastest time possible, even in spring, autumn, etc.

With the ghetto method above, you can germ seeds in a day or two ;-)

Or you can just use a seedmat or place ontop of a TV. Your germination technique is a complete waste of time and adds work to an easy process.

I can't help but notice how positive your comments always are...

Ghetto, in the american sense, typically means cheap and easy. Keyword being easy. Does it mean something else in Britain?

Work it may be, but it works!

How about if you don't have a seedmat or a warm TV? What then on a cold day?

Jon - ghetto to me means improvising with what you've got rather than spending $$$ on expensive seedmats^^^ or keeping a big TV on all day and night

you can get a seedmat for $20. you can get a regular heatmat from any drugstore for $10 or less. put that shit on low, it's basically the same. if your tv isn't warm, then it must not be on. if you can't afford a tv, electricity to power it, a seedmat, or a heatmat dont ....

I would think that is not ghetto at all rather running a 5kw oventop stove for 48 hours while a seed germinated would be quite expensive. Not to mention you could put them in a paper towel then in to paper plates and on top a heating pad.

I got that beat, by 10x. How about just a simple cup of warm water, changed a couple times over 24 hours? haha

Ok cool guys, I've never tried germing in a cup of water, and just wanted to share a technique which I know works. If it works in a cup of water, then cool, do that instead.

Believe it or not iRokz, some people do have a cold room, and NorCalFor20, the thermal energy of the water in the pan keeps the seeds warm, not keeping the stove on.

facelift

This is the money you could be saving if you grow

I think I have another use for this method. After shifting the resin from your plants when attempting a hash run, you could use the warm plate to soften up the the hash powder instead of matches, lighters and warm brinks.

I gotta grow out 100 plants safely. I want some hash.

How do you mean facelift? I don't understand.

Have you ever made hashish?

just thought i would say 24 hours ago i placed 3 seeds in toilet paper put in a dark spot in my grow room (82 degrees) and now they are in soil. I will probably see them popping up tomorrow. one thing i remember from overgrow is that the key to germination is warmth moisture and darkness
